Yeah, maybe limey, but speaking of those registration plates, or more accurately the motorcycles themselves... As a British gentleman in particular, do you notice anything at all peculiar about those "German" military motorcycles there? (...bet ya do, huh)

Are you saying that while you're not a fan of Steve's, you are still sorry that my "setting the record straight" about The Great Escape motorcycle jump might somehow lessen his legacy or "mystique" among the many of those who didn't previously know this? And the thought ; does having a stand-in (er, ride-in) diminish the hero-worship of those who would afford him avatar status? And if so, would it be appropriate to retire him and leave him in peace from unsavory associations? No, I like Steve McQueen, or I would say nothing.

Yes, that is Olivia and the other actress not named is Claire Trevor (first row, 3 over). Hard to tell who is sitting next to Olivia (but it isn't Joan, ha ha).
laffite
Claire Trevor didn't look like Claire Trevor so I viewed some images and ran across this. Is that hair cute, or what?

Louise and DeHavilland made 3 films together in 36\37 and based on the age of Jason, who was born in 1927, this picture was taken around those years. (and I'm assuming the two actresses were therefore friends).

TikiSoo
Wow-look at all the kids in the audience! I couldn't imagine being treated to see something like that as a child-my parents would never have spend that kind of dough on children's entertainment! Did anyone else have a hard time understanding/accepting a woman playing a boy in a production? I could never understand that when I was a youngster.

Did anyone else have a hard time understanding/accepting a woman playing a boy in a production? I could never understand that when I was a youngster. I vividly remember the excitement I had at seeing Mary Martin play Peter Pan live on a NBC- TV special before I was in kindergarten. It was an absolute event with live TV commercials featuring Kraft products with recipes for fun parties. I knew Mary Martin was a woman and it didn't bother me at all because after all she was just playing in a fantasy musical show. I think Peter Pan with Mary Martin was the first musical I ever saw and after that, I became a musical fanatic. About 10 years later, I saw the actor who played Captain Hook, Cyril Ritchard, on The Today Show. At first, I didn't really recognize him without the makeup, but there was something about him that frightened me immediately. It took me about 5 minutes to realize what it was and what an amazing impression he must have made on me, along with the whole show when I was so young.
