That's right...there were two sequels with George Burns. I don't think I ever saw those, or else it was on network TV, in between commercials long ago. TCM never plays those movies.

Dick Tracy is another that should be mentioned for this round. Most people know Warren Beatty played the part in 1990. But there were also four Dick Tracy B films produced by RKO in the mid-1940s. TCM airs them from time to time.

Blondie (1938) and the numerous sequels based upon Chic Young's classic comic strip are a must for this topic.

And a few modern movies based on some classic comic strips:

Flash Gordon (1980)

Popeye (1980)

The Phantom (1996) - Lee Falk's creation was one of my favorites.

The Spirit (2008)

Good post Liam. If I am not mistaken, POPEYE was one of Robin Williams' first major film roles. And I'm glad you mentioned the BLONDIE series. None of those films (there are many of them) have ever aired on TCM.

Round 130

The keyword for today is CAT.  Here are a few:

That Darn Cat!

The Black Cat

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

Catwoman

Cat People

There was a sequel, CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE, right?

Also, you had a Disney title listed there. So we can add Disney's THE CAT FROM OUTER SPACE, a movie that always makes me laugh.
