Saturday night TCM spotlights singer, bandleader and actor Rudy Vallee with a showing of *The Palm Beach Story* as part of The Essentials followed by *Gold Diggers In Paris* and *Sweet Music*. *Sweet Music* replaces the originally scheduled *How To Succeed In Business....*

 

The evening's line-up now reads like this --

9:45pm / 6:45pm *Gold Diggers In Paris*

11:30pm / 8:30pm *Sweet Music*

 

The evening comcludes with a new episode of "Now Playing: The Show" for July 2013.

I love Rudy Vallee, for his understated humor. He can make me fall down laughing doing nothing much.

Let's hope "Sweet Music" runs without the men in parachutes, constantly flashing TCM logo (only part of it) at the bottom of the screen, and the loss of sound synchronization that plagued the showing two years ago. Like I've said before, you haven't lived until you've heard and seen Alice White and Ned Sparks talking in each other's voices.

 

Maybe Robert and Drew will talk in each other's voices tonight in tribute? I can only hope. That would be worth recording for posterity.
