markbeckuaf
With a nod to the former feature on TCM, "Darkness After Dawn", TCM will be airing a full day of noir/crime flix all from the year 1950, for the daytime lineup tomorrow, Wed, June 26th!!! Gotta check it out for sure (full schedule listed below)!!! Some aren't screened that often, such as DOUBLE DEAL (coolio little low budget flick with Marie Windsor--boom chakka lakka!!), QUICKSAND (1950) with The Mick, Peter Lorre and Cagney's sister as the femme fatale--boyhowdee!!!, DESTINATION MURDER which is just creepy as all get out and has a really cool twist in the plot about 2/3 of the way through!!, DIAL 1119 which is a taut character study of folks held hostage in a bar by an off-kilter Marshall Thompson!!, and ARMORED CAR ROBBERY, which lives up to the Mamie Doren flick, "Guns, Girls and Gangsters", though this one is probably better, even though still low budgie, with a cast of tough beefcake mugs (including Charlie McGraw and William "DA Burger" Talman), and curvaceous dames, and rip-roaring action and rat-ta-tat-tat dialogue!! h1. 6:00 AM h2. Hibi
I was able to sit through 2 Mamie films last night (Vice Raid and Guns, Girls and Gangsters) to free up space (wasnt easy!) to record 4 of the films today. LOL. Vice Raid was a bit better than the other one...... I have 2 Mamie films left (Sex Kittens and Black Stockings) will save them for the wknd! So far the best Mamie film of the lot was still the first one (Untamed Youth) LOL!
AndyM108
Other than the occasional SuperSUTS day with a Mifune or a Gabin or a Chaney and one TCM premiere after another, this may be the best 14 hour run of movies I've seen on TCM in the last 4 years. If I didn't already have all but the first 2 of them on DVD, I'd be going nuts switching disks on a nonstop basis. In fact this lineup is so great that even the Mickey Rooney movie is worth watching. Those are 16 words I can barely believe I've just written. B-)
markbeckuaf
Andy, I'm super psyched that you're enjoying the day!!! Groove hard!!! I agree, it's pretty awesome! But if it's not enough for anyone, check out 3 of the flix airing tomorrow (noted in the very bottom of my first post)!! Especially the first two (they aren't back-to-back-to-back but spread out a bit over the morning/day), they totally rock as well!!!
markbeckuaf
Hibi, glad you were able to groove to some Mamie last night! I would rate VICE RAID and GUNS, GIRLS AND GANGSTERS about even in my groove-o-meter, but yeah, it was nice to see VICE RAID, a new flick for me this time around!!!! SEX KITTENS is different, but check it out!!! Hope you were able to make enough space for today's groovin' crime/noir fest!!!
Hibi
It seemed like Mamie screamed in every film she made (LOL) I remember many years ago Sex Kitten played on our local tv station late show and thinking what a weird title for a movie. But, yes, it made enough room on the DVR for the 4 movies I wanted to see! (the rest I'd seen) Love Marie Windsor and Charles McGraw so those films were no-brainers! SansFin
I had hoped I might watch: *Dial 1119* (1950) when it is on but I believe now that I will not be able to stay awake for it and will have to record it. I have never seen this movie. I hope I remember to avoid this thread until I have been able to watch is so as to avoid spoilers.
markbeckuaf
Sans Fin, awesome, I hope you do get to view DIAL 1119!! Would you mind sharing your thoughts about the film once you've had a chance to screen it??? Mucho appreciated!!!
FredCDobbs
>Sans Fin, awesome, I hope you do get to view DIAL 1119!! Would you mind sharing your thoughts about the film once you've had a chance to screen it??? Mucho appreciated!!! I generally don't watch these "home invasion" or "hostage" type films involving a psycho, because they freak me out, since so much stuff like this happens in real life. But I'll make an exception in this case and let you know what I think of it. I hope SansFin watches it too.
markbeckuaf
Fred, if you do happen to watch it, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on it as well! Though I totally get what you are saying, this one is a low-budget character study and a pretty darn good and underrated one, I'd say!!
FredCDobbs
Yes, it was a good movie, but too frustrating for me. For example, every bar, cafe, etc. should have some 4-foot x 3/4-inch pipes, baseball bats, and even a gun or two hidden around the place. Had there been 4 or 5 baseball bats on those hijacked 9-11 airliners, chances are the passengers could have taken control of the planes back. For a confined space, small kids bats would do. Bars should have weapons for the bartenders and other workers. A bartender could slip a message to a customer too, about where they are hidden. They don't need to be used unless the crazy guy starts killing people. No one should be in a workplace back then or today without some means of self protection, and especially now that there are so many crazy people running around.
