Guest ctalbott
I remember watching a movie years ago, and for the life of me I cant remember the name. It was in B&W, and I guess falls in the film noir genre. I think it starred Clark Gable as the mobster. He began an affair with the daughter of the lawyer who defended him. Her exfiance murdered Gable when he became obsessive over the girl. Id love to watch it again, but its rather difficult to find without knowing the title. Does this ring a bell with anyone?? Guest gene
I think you are referring to a A FREE SOUL, with Lionel Barrymore starring.
Guest Alix
Yes, the movie to which you refer is A Free Soul, starring Norma Shearer, Lionel Barrymore and Leslie Howard and Clark Gable. It is an excellent film and is shown occassionally on TCM, so keep an eye out on the schedule.
Guest cfrances
I saw a silent film years ago that I don't remember the name of at all. It was a drama that took place in Appalachia, and dealt with the mistreatment of women in the backwoods culture there. The hero advocated treating women with "chivalry", which in this case treating them with respect rather than as beasts of burden. I've always thought of chivalry as a very old-fashioned manner of treating women as helpless, so I found the film very ironic.
Guest maggiemay
I've been trying to find the name of a movie that I saw on TV in the early 70s--it may even have been a TV movie. It was about a girl who runs away from home, becomes sort of a hippie, becomes homeless, and eventually finds her way back home. The final shot is of her with a totally numb look on her face, vacuuming. I don't believe the actress was Sally Fields but she had that look--short stature, short black hair. Guest gene
Could that have been LINDA? I forget the female star, but I'm sure Noah Beery was in it. He marries a very young mountain girl to take care of him and he surprises himself by falling in love with her. It's a moving story.
Guest _Boomer2002
At about midnight April 18-19 I saw part of a western movie with Sean Connery who was kind of escorting some British royalty big game hunters out west. They cornered and shot a mountain lion. Also had a butler along who served drinks in his tuxedo and wore gloves. All sat in full uniform at a dinner table in the wilderness. Connery did some negotiating with hostile Indians since the hunters had illegally entered an Indian reservation.I think this movie was on TCM and desperately want to identify it so I can see the whole thing. Any solutions appreciated.

Guest TCMhost-Joy
ppaggie, the song title for which you're looking is "We'll Meet Again," performed by Vera Lynn. And you're in luck! There is a soundtrack compilation of many songs from Kubricks movies, entitled, Dr. Stangelove: Music From The Films Of Stanley Kubrick. This CD includes the Well Meet Again tune from the movie Dr. Strangelove.
Guest Labovitz, Gene
In the movie "Over 21", based upon the play by Ruth Gordon, Alexander Knox's character -- the newspaper publisher -- delivers a speech at army officer school graduation entitled "The World and Apple Pie." It's been about 35 years seen I've seen the movie, but I remember the speech (in the movie was was originally a newspaper editorial that his wife had written for him -- played by Irene Dunne). The speech was a comment on how each one of us impacts and is, in turn, affected by what happens in the world (thus the connection to an apple pie). I've tried to track it down but have been unsuccessful. Does anyone else remember it or know where I can get a hard copy of the movie or the "speech"?
Guest crisopera
maggie may - your movie is, I believe, indeed a TV movie, called "Maybe I'll Come Home in the Spring," and it does star Sally Field. Boomer- your movie is definitely "Shalako," one of many doomed attempts to make Brigitte Bardot into an American movie star.
geewhiz
Has "My Son John" been seen any where since its original release? It's a period film re: a family that disowns a son (Robert Walker) who is a communist sympathizer. A daring role for Walker at the height of Sen. Joe McCarthy's witch-hunt. (Also Walker's last film, as he died from a sodium amytal injection by his psychiatrist during production of this movie.) Video available? Has anyone seen this film? Also stars Helen Hayes and Van Heflin.
Guest TCMhost-Claire
Gene, the play "Over 21" is published in The Best Plays of 1943-44, part of the Burns Mantle series of best plays. I could not find a listing for it on Amazon, but the reference I did find is at http://www.the-forum.com/books/burns.htm. I was unable to locate anyplace that has a video of the film, however. Guest PattiSam
Encore's mystery channel is occasionally playing The Detective. In fact, this month, they are playing a few Sinatra flicks. Check it out.
Guest DreamAct4U
Anyone know the title to the movie with June Allyson and Van Johnson where June pretends to be 12 so she can be a piano prodigy? I can't seem to recall it.
Guest TCMhost-Joy
DreamAct4U, the movie you're talking about is "Too Young To Kiss," (!951). June Allyson won the Golden Globe Award as Best Motion Picture Actress - Musical/Comedy for her performance.
Guest Eleanor
When are we going to see more Ida Lupino movies? She made over 60 in her career, yet just a few are show. Is anyone else interested in her film & TV career?
Guest Cindy
Ida is another star who is definitely star of the month material! She is one of my many faves! I enjoyed her awhole lot in the movie They Drive by Night! Especially the way she "freaks" out at the end of the movie! What a performance!
Guest normandewitt
I saw a film about 55 years ago that still haunts me because I was very young at the time and remember its beautiful music and its rising young star Susan Peters. I believe the name of the movie was "Song Of Russia", and also stared Robert Taylor. Susan Peters career was ended when she was crippled in a hunting accident. I believe she only made one movie called "Sign Of The Ram" after her accident, which she performed from a wheelchair. Does anyone know anything about the movie or Susan Peters other movies. Is it possible she was related to actress Jean Peters. There was a strong resembalance.
Guest pgates
Several years ago I saw a mystery movie and cannot remember the title or who the main characters are. It's BW, perhaps late 30's or early 40's. The setting is an old house or mansion, the mystery is the hidden document. Everyone is running around trying to figure out where the "key" is hidden. There is a simple-minded girl who wanders in and out of scenes singing a riddle which goes (spelling is phonetic): "honors flysis, incomb besis, onches nobis, inob kesis." This riddle reveals where the key to the chest containing the papers is hidden (a will or deed I think). The true spelling of the riddle is: "on horse flys is, in comb bees is, on chest knob is, in knob keys is." and yes, the key is hidden behind a drawer pull on a chest. I would like to find out the name of this movie so I can watch for it again. Any help is appreciated.
Guest Eve
I saw a movie just the other day and i can't remeber the name of it! i don't remember who was in it, either. this is quite unusual for me, because i can see part of a movie once and remember at least 3 people in it, the basic storyline, and what those 3 people were wearing, but this movie!!!!!!!!! it was about a woman who thought her husband was cheating on her with his secretary that she told him to hire and he wasn't at first and then he was and she left him when he was on a business trip with the seductive secretary and found them together and saved them both from a forest fire later. (that sentence had at least 5 ands in it, didn't it?) i don't think i saw it from there on, but it was strange. there was a party sequence somewhere in there, too, where the wife lent the secretary a blue dress. (of course it could've been red, cause it was in black and white, but they kept insisting that her color was blue and she looked really good, because she usually looked so homely.) i want to say that joan crawford was in it, but i know she wasn't! it kind of reminded me of the women and of course the women reminded me of it's crappy 50's musical remake the opposite sex so i'm really confused! Guest TCMhost-Claire
You've got it right, Norm--Song of Russia was made in 1943, starring Susan Peters and Robert Taylor. Susan Peters made two films after her accident, The Sign of the Ram and Keep Your Powder Dry; she also did some stage work. Peters was a stage name; her real name was Suzanne Carnahan, so she is not related to Jean Peters.
Guest TCMhost-Claire
Hi Eve,Could the movie be Her Husband's Secretary? This movie is from 1937, with Jean Muir, Beverly Roberts and Warren Hull--not exactly the most recognizable actors. This obscure film does have a plotline in which the wife gets her former roommate a job with her husband.Did you see the movie on TCM? If so, around when did you see it?
