edgedrv
This rarely seen 1943 film is finally being released on DVD. This is an excellent adaptation of Somerset Maugham's story of the life of Paul Gauguin. The always excellent George Sanders stars as the famous artist. The director is Albert Lewin, whose films include PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY and PRIVATE LIVES OF BEL AMI, and also starred Sanders. To date THE MOON AND SIXPENCE has only been available on VHS and seems to have vanished from TV. The film originally included a Technicolor insert. Unfortunately, the insert is not on the VHS tape. Hopefully the DVD will include the insert, but I have my doubts since VCI is releasing the film on DVD.
