The film nods to such 1960s guys-in-foamy-suit epics from Toho Studios as “Destroy All Monsters.” If those memories are special, “Rim” stomps all over them. The convoluted plot kicks off with a voiceover from Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot informing us that just before the year 2020, a breach in dimensions opened under the Pacific. That change let loose a monster parade (they look like the “Cloverfield” alien mixed with hammerhead sharks). As a defense, mankind creates building-sized robots.
