Vast Majority of the October 2013 Schedule

The star of the month is Vincent Price and his day is Thursday.

Friday night spotlight is reserved for horror.

Monday and Tuesday night are reserved for the History of Film series.

I have two slots open.

One is October 14 during the day and is clearly a Lillian Gish film, but I can't find the missing film.

The other open slot is on October 17. Beats me what the daytime theme is here, even if it is a split theme day.

I'll add the themes when I have more time.

Good work as always, Calvin.

Hard to know which are the TCM premieres, but I do note that for the first time in a long time we're getting Nightmare Alley, which to noir buffs is easily Tyrone Power's greatest role. And I see it's even showing twice. The Fox Movie Channel revives it fairly often, but I can't remember the last time I've seen it on TCM.

And I see it's even showing twice. The Fox Movie Channel revives it fairly often, but I can't remember the last time I've seen it on TCM.

I noticed Nightmare Alley too. It's one of my favorite Tyrone Power films. Also, 1973's "Sisters" starring Margo Kidder in a dual role, is also something I look forward to seeing after many years. Perhaps it's been on TCM before, but I don't recall when that would have been.

Risque rep, yeah, but it delivered the goods about as well as the Chicago Cubs. The universal reaction in Washington when it was finally shown after all the buildup was:

*"THIS is what the fuss was all about??!!"*

Seriously, if anyone out there hasn't seen this movie, pack a snooze alarm before you begin watching.

Pretty lackluster. I am a fan of Christopher Lee's CASTLE OF THE LIVING DEAD. I hope it's a better print than the last one shown on TCM. Also nice to see THE DEATH KISS on the schedule. It is a well-done poverty row mystery, not a horror film despite the reunion of Bela Lugosi, David Manners and Edward Van Sloan from DRACULA.

Actually as part of The History of Film there's a whole host of interesting movies. It's not as if we were likely to see Boy and Daisies elswhere on television. And we will, with luck, get to see The Damned and Pather Panchali. Also, Verboten. But apparently not The Witchfinder General/The Conqueror Worm in the tribute to Vincent Price.

When I saw 'The Witches' scheduled I got very excited thinking at last I'd get to see that Clint Eastwood movie he made in addition to his spaghetti westerns over there in the mid 60's. But, I doubt that's what it will be. I have no idea what movie is being referred to from 1966.

I'm willing to bet that it's the film that was released in the States as THE DEVIL'S OWN but was called THE WITCHES in the U.K.

Yes, I'd love to see that rare Eastwood title also.

I'm going out on a limb and predict that TCM will never actually show I AM CURIOUS (Yellow). In this country there is a very strong stigma attached to an X-rating. Correctly or not, it means pornography to an awful lot of people.

Some communities prohibit X-rated films from being shown on basic cable channels like TCM so there's a possibility that it would be blacked out in parts of the country. Many newspapers still won't carry advertising or any listing of films with that rating. A year or two back, TCM pulled X-rated FRITZ THE CAT from the schedule and speculation was that the order came from the highest levels of corporate management.

Understand, I'm not saying the TCM should or shouldn't pull it, I'm just predicting that it will be pressured into doing so. I could be wrong, but, I'll be surprised if I am.

i think the 1962 movie that was identified as Eclipse (on Tues (really Wed) Oct 15 (really 16) at 515 AM edt) is the 1962 Italian film by director Michelangelo Antonioni, L'eclisse (which translated means eclipse). That movie is in keeping with The Story of Film topic of New Wave films. The movie stars Alain Delon and Antonioni favorite Monica Vitti. it's too bad the Alain Resnais flik Last Year at Marienbad wouldn't fit in. at least L'avventura was skipped. (it's waaaay overrated!)

You are correct. It is L'eclisse.

So, The Damned is scheduled again? Hope it gets shown this time. Was pulled the last time for some reason. I've always wanted to see I Am Curious (Yellow) never got around to my area, but was quite popular in places where it wasnt busted! :D I remember Blue being a dud at the box office. The notoriety had died down by then.........

"Pretty lackluster" is an understament if any I've heard one. This is the *worst* Halloween month schedule I've ever seen. Dedicating an entire month to Vincent Price, and showcasing his films that are played to death throughout the year on TCM and the EPIX group of channels is an insult. Only three or four of the same UNIVERSAL horror films replayed while all the usual HAMMER garbage is trudged out once again as a consolation prize. Boy, the programmers must have been working overtime to come up with this BS schedule. Can some one tell me what the blank is so terrible about 1931's DRACULA that TCM refuses to show it or can't? And for that matter, how about BELA LUGOSI as SOTM? Dosen't someone at TCM listen to the fans? George Tabesh, are you listening? If not, I have a coupon for Debrox I would be willing to send you.
