FlyBackTransformer
The Happy Ending?...never again. The air of detachment combined with the echoey sound and Jean Simmons bizarre demeanor. No thanks. Makes Divorce, American Style look like a family classic.
DownGoesFrazier
But "What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life" is a great song, and Shirley Jones displayed gargantuan cleavage.
Hibi
So cleavage and a good song makes a good movie for you?

lavenderblue19
What Are You Doing the Rest Of Your Life is one Beautiful song, one of best ever written for a film, imo. The performances were all so good in *The Happy Ending , love looking at the '60's clothes, hairdos and locations shots. Still find this film so depressing.*
DownGoesFrazier
It is one of the best songs ever written, period. Not just for a film. The best version, IMHO, is by Streisand. The melody AND lyrics are fantastic. "North and south and east and west, of your life. I have only one request of your life, that you spend it all with me". Sublime. DownGoesFrazier
His best film as a director was THE CATERED AFFAIR.
lavenderblue19
Yes, I think *The Catered Affair* is an excellent film. However, it's not my favorite Richard Brooks film. I know you don't care for it finance, BUT my favorite Richard Brooks film is *Elmer Gantry* . I never tire of it. The performances by everyone are brilliant and so is the film. Arturo
Besides ELMER GANTRY, twp of my favorite Brooks moviea are the Tennessee Williams adaptstions he did with Paul Newman. But as they get plenty of play on TCM, I'm glad they werent shown yesterday.

twtpark
Brooks' "Battle Circus"was MASH before the tv MASH.But it was not a very good movie. Allyson and Bogart were a strange team..The dialogue was perfect for a Lifetime movie of today. Thinking back I thought the battle scenes were realistic until. I realized I got them mixed up with those in. "Pork Chop Hill".Anyway "Battle Circus" was definitely not one of Brooks' best.
