whistlingypsy
I never would have imagined Ramon Novarro getting jiggy with it. . .? However, I sense the actor would have approved of a day celebrating his films...in that "groovy SUTS thang" sort of way.
Hibi
I wish I had more space on the DVR as many of these films I havent seen and are seldom shown. I'll have to choose......
BelleLeGrand1
*Devil May Care* (which is supposed to include a scene in early Technicolor!) could very well be a TCM premiere, and *Scaramouche* has definitely not been aired in several years, so you might want to be sure to make room for those. Lots of great movies being shown this day.
jcphelps
Sorry, everyone I just made a double thread, I didn't see this one by "Mark". But I guess you can blame it all my excitement to see that "Ramon" got his day! I wish they were showing "call of the flesh" but the line up is great! So looking foward to it... markbeckuaf
JC, thank you for sharing your excitement for Ramon Novarro day on Thursday!!!! It's looking so awesome!! No worries on the multiple threads! The more the merrier when it comes to honoring Ramon and the opportunity to dig on silent and early talkie flicks!!! mrroberts
The Robert Mitchum/Jane Greer film, *The Big Steal* , should be scheduled here, Ramon Novarro has a great supporting role and he practically "steals" the film from the two stars.
Arturo
I too am excited, but in a bind as to what to record, since I'll be at work. And as much as I love THE BIG STEAL, I am glad it isn't shown, since something else is. TBS is on regularly on TCM, Unlike the majority of what has been scheduled for Novarros day. FredCDobbs
I love the 1925 BEN HUR. Francis X. Bushman looks so much more strong and powerful than Ramon Novarro, but Ramon fights him and wins in the end.
FredCDobbs
How the 1925 Ben Hur chariot race was filmed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEknV9vPQt0 The information about the hanging miniatures is fascinating
Hibi
Thanks. I'm hoping I'll have space for 3 films. We'll see.......Devil May Care will definitely be one of them.....
Hibi
Agree about The Big Steal. It's shown occasionally whereas these other films arent. Plus I prefer the younger Ramon over the older, bloated looking one.........

scamp
How grand and glorious than Ramon is finally getting a full 24 hours!! ... I've been a TCM junkie since 1995 and am grateful to have recorded, over the years, all his films that'll be shown Thursday. Back in 2000, I traveled miles over wintery mountain roads for a big-screen showing of *The Red Lily* at the Bijou Theatre, Lincoln City, Oregon. Now THAT was a coup, finding Ramon in little coastal Oregon! The stars were truly aligned! … All thanks to Matias Bombal, who has an amazing collecton and appreciation of Ramon. More serendipitously, browsing through a stash of movie stills at an Oregon antique shop ... at the very bottom ... a large, luminous headshot of Ramon in *Son of India* ... "Hurrell" embossed on the front, an MGM label on the back ... I trimmed the photo to fit a lovely oval Victorian rosewood frame ... before I realized who Hurrell was ... Hope these next 24 hours will ignite a Ramon-esque spark in the hearts of viewers! P.S. The saga isn't complete without admitting, that, yes, when I visited LA, I tracked down his grave at Calvary Cemetary ... Sure is fun being a film fan! BelleLeGrand1
Sorry to be posting this so late, but I just realized when setting up to record *Scaramouche* in the morning, that it's a 124 minute movie scheduled in a two-hour time slot. I've allowed additional time on the back end of my recording, and I hope everyone else not watching live will have done the same (as we always should, since this happens on occasion). gagman66
scamp, Wow, that's interesting about the screening of THE RED LILY back in 2000. The following year in 2001 there was a screening of FORBIDDEN HOURS (1928) with Ramon and Renee Adoree and I have been waiting for that film to premiere on TCM year after year ever since. Both of these films were originally considered lost for many decades. Glad that Ramon is getting honored, it's well deserved.
Hibi
Now, that's dedication! I enjoyed The Red Lily when TCM showed it awhile back. Did you read the biography about Ramon that came out about a decade ago? It was very good.......
gagman66
Sadly, ACROSS TO SINGAPORE is in horrendous shape. THE PAGAN looks great by comparison, even though it is no better than a 3rd or 4rth generation print at best. So does Marion Davies THE CARDBOARD LOVER which TCM claimed had to much nitrate decomposition to be shown. Same with Caney's WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS. They are nothing like ACROSS TO SINGAPORE. That has really deteriorated. It's to bad a better quality, far less damaged print can't be found. It also needs a different score. The film might be really good, but it difficult to judge in such shoddy condition. With THE PAGAN I had Dorothy Janis listed as number 2 or 3 most beautiful actress of the Silent era. And this film also has my beloved Renee Adoree although she plays third Banana here.I've been told that a much better print of THE PAGAN has since turned up. SansFin
I have recorded: *The Prisoner of Zenda* (1922). I hope it is a good print as I have not seen it in many years but I remember it fondly.

twinkeee
I am looking forward to watching BEN HUR (1925) as I have Never seen it before. I have heard that the Chariot Race in the 1925 version is supposed to be a Lot better then the one in the Ben Hur (1959) version. Twinks
FredCDobbs
I like the chariot race in the 1925 version, and the whole film, better than the later version. Francis X. Bushman seems like such a mean giant up against Ramon Novarro, who seems rather small. But the good guy wins in the end. It is very interesting to me that in this film, all the Romans seem like Nazis.
