RMeingast
News that Emma Thompson and Ralph Fiennes will be playing the leads in this new film adaptation of Hans Fallada's novel "Jeder stirbt für sich allein." The novel was a bestseller and was released in the U.S. under the title "Every Man Dies Alone" (The U.K. title was "Alone in Berlin"): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Every_Man_Dies_Alone Anyway, with Emma Thompson and Ralph Fiennes playing the leads, I assume the film will be in English, despite being a German production. Vincent Perez is directing. The only other English-language film of a Fallada novel that I'm aware of is Frank Borzage's 1934 "Little Man, What Now?" starring Margaret Sullavan and Douglass Montgomery: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Man,_What_Now%3F_%28film%29 Also, http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/81543/Little-Man-What-Now-/ "Little Man, What Now" was the first of Frank Borzage's Weimar Trilogy (the other two are "Three Comrades" and "The Mortal Storm"). Prof. Benjamin Alpers presented a paper on the film trilogy at a film conference that you can read here: http://web.uct.ac.za/conferences/filmhistorynow/papers/balpers.doc
