I'd like to see a remake of this most melodramatic effort from John Sturges. Hollywood set designers would yet get another chance to recreate 1960s mission control in Houston. In a remake they should play up the angle of the Gregory Peck character being such a bureaucrat with zero sense for public opinion also the muddled conclusion of the 1969 movie hurts the film a lot. This time around never mind the SRV lifting body or the russian capsule but rather have the doomed astronauts in a last ditch attempt get the retro engine to fire!...and don't make oxygen such a limiting factor with the story. Have them make it back to the orbital lab for air before they ultimately fix their vehicle!...and play up the emotional tension with the wives. Hand such a project to Ron Howard since he proved his mettle so well with Apollo 13.

Well in THAT case, how about re-making ANOTHER "astronaut themed" flick from around that same era, "Capricorn One"...but THIS time they make it a little more true to life.

 

(...in the remake, O.J. somehow escapes with his life!!!)

How about a good Civil War era flick? How about one made in 1939?

Next time suggest remaking a movie set in 1959 or earlier.

 

(...'cause as we all know, all movies made after that date are inferior to any that predated 'em!!!)
