Swithin
The New York Times is reporting today that Tom Christian has died on Pitcairn Island. Tom's great-great-great-grandfather, Fletcher Christian, led the mutiny on the Bounty in 1789. Tom has "kept the island connected to the world." *Mutiny on the Bounty* (1935) will be shown on TCM tomorrow afternoon, with Clark Gable playing Tom's great-great-great-grandfather. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/24/world/asia/tom-christian-descendant-of-bounty-mutineer-dies-at-77.html?hp&_r=
Sepiatone
I saw a documentary made in the '60's about the island. VERY remote, ideed. Many people still get surprised when they "discover" the story about the mutiny was based in fact, not just Hollywood storytelling. Swithin
Tom Christian became friends with Captain Bligh's great-great-great-grandson! Think of that when you're watching the interaction between Gable and Laughton tomorrow!
FlyBackTransformer
Great fodder for a new historical epic...the continuing exploits of *William Bligh*. He was given the governorship of NSW and things kinda got outta hand...again. You just can't keep them old school authoritarian types down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Bligh
