bansi4
Just was informed on my birthday thread that actor Eddie Albert has died at the age of 99. He was married to the lovely actress Margo who were the parents of Edward Albert. Mr. Albert appeared in 100 films and was Oscar nominated twice in a supporting role. He also appeared on many TV programs including the hit TV comedy "Green Acres". A swell guy and fighter of good causes, may he rest in peace. bggalaxy
he was always a favorite of mine growing up in the 60's and 70's. He sure came across as a swell guy - I'm glad to hear he was.
fssbdgtsue59
I never liked the man in Green Acres-too simple minded a show for my taste but as I have watched all the great movies on TCM, I have come to love the man for his unceasing effort in acting whatever part he was given. Eddie did a lot of great movies and he will be dearly missed.
edgedrv
I too never liked the TV series GREEN ACRES, but always had a fondness for the movie actor Albert. He was a two time Oscar loser for ROMAN HOLIDAY and THE HEARTBREAK KID. In the early part of his career he seemed to be typecast in good guy roles especially in WB 1930s roles, and later supporting lead actress Susan Hayward in two of my favorites, SMASHUP and I'LL CRY TOMORROW. His later roles were varied and he never gave a bad performance. Albert had a pleasant singing voice recording several albums and also starred in the Irving Berlin musical MISS LIBERTY in 1950s. Its one of my favorite show albums. Luckily, I got to meet Albert in the early 1990s and I found he was very much like his nice guy on-screen personna. stargzn
I never spoke with him, but saw him interact with others, at our office. A true gentleman. It may have been Roman Holiday, when I realized Eddie Albert was a 'real' actor and not just the character on Green Acres. I think the song is one of the all-time classic tv themes, but the show was horrendous. Too bad most people will remember him for that role. But now, he is in God's Green Acre. Rest in peace, Eddie. I'm sure you are reunited with your beloved, Margo. My condolences to the Albert family.
vecchiolarry
Hello Everybody, Very sad news about Eddie Albert. I believe he was suffering from dementia, perhaps Alzheimers. I did like "Green Acres" but I realize it was just light weight buffoonery and it was worth a chuckle. R.I.P. Eddie Albert. Larry
moviejoe79
I was just reading about this on the AOL news thing. And Larry you're right, he was suffering from Alzheimer's - his son said so in the article. This past Saturday I was watching Eddie in "Out of the Fog," with John Garfield, Ida Lupino, and Thomas Mitchell, on TCM, and I was thinking about how he was still with us. What a shame that he passes away only a few days later. He was great in his role, small as it was, and I also enjoyed him in "I'll Cry Tomorrow," and "Oklahoma." You know, I was even going to start a thread about "Out of the Fog," since I really thought it was excellent. I never knew that Eddie did so much charity work, and it's always nice to hear something like that about a star. May he rest in peace.
classicsfan1119
I was just reflecting back on all the movies that Eddie Albert appeared in which he left a lasting impression on me. He was a top-notch actor, and also a wonderful man off screen...certainly one of the last of his kind. My Sincere Condolences to his family and many lifetime friends, both on screen and off. Hopefully, TCM will present a Tribute to him soon. ML
kenwal34
ML, I'll join you and many others in expressing my condolences to his friends and family. Mr. Albert was a WW2 veteran . I seem to recall seeing that he was in the Navy and participated in the D-Day operations. Ken.

I loved his comic timing in "GreenAcres" with his scenes with Lisa Eva Gabor but loved his scenes with arnold the pig! His straightman posture with all the comical goings on was priceless i laughed my funny bone off i still sing the theme song to this day!..... Always the gentleman & working for countless charities Mr. Albert set a good example and Hollywood should be proud! my sympathies to his son, grand daughter, family & close friends thank you Mr. Albert for all blessings you gave us of your talents, generousity kindness, & just being you! gwtwbooklover
I can't believe it may he rest in peace and my condolences to his loving family. I love Green Acres, love it it is a very classic TV show. I find it hard to understand people not liking that show. I remember seeing Albert in the brother rat movies though he was in a supporting role my eyes followed him. Guys what is the name of the baby in the brother rat movies? The dialogue between him and his on screen wife is hilarious especially being young marrieds and new parents. I will miss him but he is not suffering but he will be with us through his movies and Green Acres.
bhryun
I agree gwtwbooklover! I grew up watching Green Acres, and Eddie Albert made me laugh the most. His character was so put upon by everyone and everything around him. I think he played it perfect. The things he had to keep a straight face through! Only a great actor could pull that off. And thats what I'll remember him most for, although he did many great films also! Rest in Peace Eddie Albert, and thank you.
