JamesJazGuitar
The schedule indicates that TCM is showing the sound version (e.g. the Martin review of the movie, the movie clips) but maybe this time TCM has update the intro.
musicalnovelty
Turned out to be the sound version again.

clore
He referred to it as Hitchcock's first talkie and made mention of the lead actress needing to be dubbed because of her accent.
willmckinley
I saw the silent version of BLACKMAIL at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in July as part of the "Hitchcock 9" series of restorations with live accompaniment. I also watched it last night. In it's silent form, it's atmospheric and creepy. As a "part Talkie" I found it far less effective. I'm still holding out hope that TCM will eventually acquire broadcast rights to the BFI restorations of the 9 surviving Hitchcock silents, and air the "new" versions. The versions of the Hitchcock silent films TCM is airing this month are not the restored versions.

I've got an idea. Next time this sound version is on, turn your TV sound off and watch it silent.
