Jamie
Anyone here love Joan Crawford as much as I do? Seen all of her movies or yet to see them all? I saw Possessed (1947) and although the ending wasn't satisfying, the acting was--well,--different. Not in a bad way, but in a way in which an actor's capabilities is discovered/renewed... Anywho, that was a tangent. I've yet to see Damned Don't Cry, Daisy Kenyon, etc. etc. and August 22's airing of all of her films!! Anybody seen the said movies or others and which are worth watching? Mildred Pierce is by far my favorite so far. ~~~ Anyone seen Dead Ringer? A Stolen Life? I've been urged to watch these as well and have yet to. ~~~ K, Thanks! sandykaypax
jposkitt, DEAD RINGER and A STOLEN LIFE are Bette Davis movies. They are both enjoyable, however. But back to Joan: DAISY KENYON has been shown recently on the Fox Movie Channel, and they repeat their films, so maybe you could catch it there. Some of the 1930's Crawford films that I like are THE WOMEN (a must-see!), CHAINED, DANCING LADY (both with Clark Gable). For 1940's Joan I like ABOVE SUSPICION with Fred MacMurray, STRANGE CARGO with Gable, SUSAN AND GOD. I think that Joan and Gable have great chemistry together. One of her films that I've yet to see is MILDRED PIERCE! I'll catch it on TCM eventually... Sandy K
therealfuster
I'd suggest like the say in the Wizard of Oz, it is always best to begin at the beginning. Or close to it...so get the silent with Lon Chaney called "The Unknown". It is scary as all get out, and TCM shows it occasionally, and it is on the Lon Chaney collection dvd. Joan plays the daughter of the carnival, who has an aversion to men pawing her, and Chaney plays Alonzo the Armless, who is in love with Joan. She looks very little like the later day Joan, with the big eyebrows and "Rain" inspired lips of Sadie Thompson. All Joan's films are fun to watch, and I also would recommend for a real Joan fix, the film called "Queen Bee" and perhaps "Autumn Leaves" with Cliff Robertson. Jamie
Yep, I knew that the latter two movies were Davis films; looking at it now I can see the mistake. *tiny voice* sorry. Anyway, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! You have not seen Mildred Pierce?!! If anything else, DEFINITELY see it! It is, I think, the best and she was definitely deserving of the Academy! ooooh, if only she went to the ceremony....You'll love Mildred!
