Pier_Angeli
I just bought the dvd 'Come and See' by Elem Klimov at a thrift store. I didn't know anything about it except for it was a war movie. Then I saw it was spoken in Russian. Then I saw was a Kino Lorber brand who did Metropolis. I bought it. It was about the Germans fighting the Russians. The Nazi's burnt 628 villages in Russia with all their inhabitants. The movie won the Grand Prize in the Moscow Film Festival. 'Come and See' was a very powerful and disturbing movie. http://www.kinolorber.com/video.php?id=
Mackie45
Hell of a movie. Was just talking about it with an Icelandic pal over at Zoetrope the other day who had seen it again, just recently. I'll say here the same thing I said there: You rarely see the ravages of war made so palpable on film, so viscerally present to the viewer: the weirdness of war is what you've 'come' to 'see' in that film. Recent news film coming out of Syria would seem to confirm Klimov's vision.
