Another question: where do these "TCM Word of Mouth" segments get the material from? Are these excerpts of documentaries, past interviews, and the likes? Wouldn't there be rights clearance issues if they get material from all these different sources? It's hard enough to get clearances for movies already.

And if they are from documentaries, then what are the documentaries? I've seen many of these Word of Mouth segments and have not been able to identify even one.

The majority of the material for *Word of Mouth* comes from the Turner Archive Project, a large video oral history project that began back in the early 1990s. George Feltenstein and Roger Mayer thought it was important to interview actors, directors, writers as well as crew members and studio staff about the films and the studio system.

In the beginning years, the project was funded by Ted Turner. Every year, about 25 people are chosen to be interviewed for the project. The interviews are videotaped and are said to be extensive.

When Turner merged his media empire with Time-Warner in the mid to late 1990s, the Turner Archive Project was transferred to the care of Warner Brothers Home Video.

George Feltenstein, an exec at WBHV, has kept the project going since then, though these days, the focus is more on the studios that cover the Warners film library, RKO, pre-1986 MGM and Warners.

TCM has access to those interviews and culls them for use in *Word of Mouth* and other interstitials.

The material is also culled for Original Programming documentaries that TCM produces.

In addition, other filmmakers access the interviews for use in the *Making of* documentaries that WB produces for their home entertainment market, ie DVDs and Blu-Rays.

I believe other studios can license the interviews as well for their *Making of* documentaries.

The complete interviews, as far as I know, are not online.
