This actor was originally suppose tp play the male lead in a Multiple Oscar winning film. He backed out right before production started, story is he was doing in real life with the character was doing in the film and he was afraid the press would start digging into his background. Actor, film ?? ( noirish drama)

That's what I wrote, also multiple, meaning more than 1. Film Experts call this one film noir, noirish probably has to do more with the b&w look. Can you ever just answer a question without a question and completly. What a joy that would be :)

Not that film

This film did not win as many Oscars as that film, I said ,m ore than 1, no need to look for that many Oscars and the leads did not win for this film

Definitely Not, but it's a '50's film. Think you need to read the original question. What would Richard Widmark not want the press to know? He was a straight lace family kind of guy. Go back and read the question

YES, and Thank You :) Montgomery Clift was all set for the role of Joe, 2 wks before production began he backed out. The story is at the time he was having an affair? with Libby Holman who was a torch singer and known mostly for her stage work. She was 16 years older than Monty. He didn't want others to know about their relationship, so he bowed out afraid that since his real life situation at that time mirrored the role of Joe in *Sunset Blvd* and if the press started digging around they'd make a thing of that info.

Excellent Emgee your thread.

suddenly i remembered reading that story somewhere; good bit of trivia!

What famous actress was told "No more cripples or maimed women".

And why?

No, she didn't get the part; it went to a younger actress, and the movie wasn't Johnny Belinda.

The actress had made a movie about a maimed woman

It sounds like the role of the mute girl was played by Dorothy MacGuire in *The Spiral Staircase* , Joan Crawford played a maimed woman in *A Woman's Face* so maybe the studio didn't want her to play another un glamourous role??

This actress/dancer was married to a famous actor. She said she divorced him on the grounds of Mental Cruelty. Who are the 2??
