Story of Film: New American Cinema 1967-1979

I really enjoy American films from the 1970s so I especially liked this installment of the Story of Film as well as the related movies that TCM has been showing. I had never seen Robert Altman's MCCABE & MRS. MILLER before so I'm glad this movie was aired. Julie Christie was very good in her unglamorous role (a far cry from her role in DARLING---which I love).

I never get tired of seeing CABARET or THE LAST PICTURE SHOW.

Spielberg and Lucas will be discussed in the eleventh chapter of the series, where the rise of the "blockbuster" and multiplex movie theaters will be discussed. Spielberg's JAWS will aired as one of the representative films.

The blockbuster mentality in many ways squashed the promise of the "new American cinema" of the 1970s.
