Princess of Tap Posted July 15, 2020 Share Posted July 15, 2020 "Some People Call Me A Teenage Idol" Elvis Presley ushered in the days of the singing teenage idol who, in addition to recording hit records, starred in movies and on TV in the late 50s and in the 60's. After identifying each teenage idol, can you also named one of his hit records and/one of his movies and/or TV shows. 1) This guy had a particular item of apparel that he always wore and was famous for. He was related in marriage to a famous country and western singing star. 2) This teenage idol not only sang but also played a musical instrument very well( not the guitar or the piano). He co-starred in a series of popular teen films in the 1960s. 3) This young singer followed in the footsteps of his mother, who had been a band singer and appeared in the movies. He played the guitar and was a songwriter. 4) This singer had a string of top 40 hits like all the others, but he had something the others did not have--an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. 5) This teen idol was not born in the United States. He was also a composer and lyricist, who wrote the lyrics of a hit song for one of America's top pop singers. 6) This popular young singer was discovered by Elvis' manager and also has his roots in country music. He was related in marriage to a famous American pop singer. 7) This young singer had a slew of hit records and appeared in a popular 60s movie musical, which had originally been a big hit on Broadway. Eight) This teen idol had his career launched in the aftermath of a tragic event. Bob Dylan played in the singer's backup band early on and was impressed with his singing style. Now, we all remember kids who starred in TV series, but do you remember the kids who played supporting roles? Here is a series of photos of youngsters who appeared in TV series from the fifties and sixties. A couple of them may have lasted into the seventies. Interesting how little playthings like paper dolls made us ( and our generation) happy and busy for hours. Doubt this generation would care for more than a few minutes. I remember paper dolls, but I had Barbie Dolls and so did my friends. My Mom made wedding dresses from different doll patterns for all of my friend's Barbies. I still have troll from childhood. I also remember something called Mystery Date. Poor Buffy from Family Affair - died way too young (I remember being shocked). Toys were so much less expensive in my day. The picture that I posted may be from those Disney days. I couldn't find one of him alone on his TV series, so this photo of him with other cast members may give it away. In between here is Our Miss Brooks-- Eve Arden is Miss Brooks, Robert Rockwell is Mr. Boynton and Richard Crenna is Walter Denton, a student. L-R, John Travolta, Gabe Kaplan, Ron Palillo, Robert Hegyes, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs #4 is "Room 222" with Lloyd Haynes as teacher Pete Dixon. L-R, Howard Rice, Lloyd Haynes, Denise Nicholas, Karen Valentine, Michael Constantine #5 is "The White Shadow" with Ken Howard as teacher and coach Ken Reeves. I don't know the names of all the boys. #6 is "Gidget". That's Sally Field behind the bubble and Don Porter as her father , Professor Russell Lawrence. These were all of my special shows. In terms of women, the "Perry Mason" show gave Bette Davis free rein to be a defense lawyer while Raymond Burr was out having surgery. So it sure was way ahead of the times. And that certainly can be stated twice, because Gail Patrick Jackson was the first woman to be an executive producer of a hit TV series on classic TV.
