MilesArcher
As we all know, Ricky Nelson became a singing star on his family's TV show. Before he had his own hits, he would often sing popular songs of the day on the show. One of these songs was a hit for the Everly brothers. Can you name the song? MilesArcher
Yes, "Bye Bye Love" was the first hit for the Everly Brothers around 1957. Ricky Nelson and the Four Preps sang the song on the Ozzie and Harriet show. Here they are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMsRiRkhnrA Nice work, Lav. MilesArcher
"The Carol Burnett Show". Cary said that it was too painful for him to watch. I don't know what that means. Maybe he was splitting his sides with laughter and it hurt too much.
lavenderblue19
Yes the Carol Burnett Show and maybe that was the reason, but I doubt it. Cary had a very painful, terrible childhood, maybe something reminded him. The painful answer was what I was looking for. Good work, your thread Miles
MilesArcher
Thanks. A 1950's cartoon character was called Gerald McBoing Boing, but his real name was Gerald McLoy. Why was he called Gerald McBoing Boing?
DJBeacon
Was this the little kid that only said "Boing boing"?
MilesArcher
Yes, as a toddler, he never spoke in words. He made sounds that were like a spring being uncoiled. Later, he uttered different sound effects, but never words. The character was created by Dr. Seuss. Here is a short clip: DJBeacon, it's your turn now. DJBeacon
So sorry and thanks for the reminder. Sticking with cartoons: On "Jonny Quest" (the original 1960's series) Which character was missing in the first episode? and How many different actor's voices were used for Dr Benton Quest and name them? MilesArcher
The character of Hadji was missing from the first episode. The voice of Dr. Benton Quest in the original cartoon series was provided by two actors, John Stephenson and Don Messick.

MilesArcher
A very popular ventriloquist appeared often on TV in the fifties and sixties. He had a "puppet" named Johnny. Do you know who he was? Note that the word "puppet" in in quotes for a reason.

MilesArcher
Saw'right, DJB. He appeared many times on The Ed Sullivan Show. Senor Wences was a longtime vaudeville performer as both a ventriloquist and as a juggler. He also appeared with Betty Grable in the 1947 movie "Mother Wore Tights". Here is a sample of his work. It's your turn, DJBeacon.
DJBeacon
Thanks for the clip. Here's an easy one: How many of the Mavericks were there in the TV show and what were their names? Extra credit = who were the actors? Extra, extra credit if you name 6 Mavericks.

MilesArcher
Robert Colbert played Brent Maverick in a few episodes after James Garner left the series. In a later made for TV movie, both Jack Kelly and James Garner repeated their original roles and Charles Frank played their nephew, Ben Maverick, the son of English cousin Beau. Of course, Mel Gibson played Bret Maverick in a nineties movie that co-starred James Garner.
