In this series of commercials, she would be standing at a table offering samples of a butter substitute, which used to be such a common sight in supermarkets.   A customer would come along and sample the product.  Of course, every time the person could not tell the difference between butter and the product.

OK.  This has been going on long enough.  The actress in question is Eve Arden.  This was after her TV series.  Open thread.

Prior to Burt Bacharach's hitting his stride with Dionne Warwick, he was writing songs for a number of other pop/rock acts. Name at least 3 artists he wrote songs for, and a hit for each written by Bacharach.

Bobby Vee's "Be True to Yourself" was the best of these. I didn't mention David because Burt had another partner,  Bob Hilliard. He wrote the Drifters' "Please Stay" with him.  There was also "Any Day Now", by Chuck Jackson, among others.Your turn.

Fra--Ironically Be True to Yourself is the one song I listed that I actually sing myself and have for years.

I checked this up a couple of months ago - - Burt Bacharach didn't conduct or arrange the recording. I think it was Johnny Mann with the Johnny Mann Singers. But it sounded like a Bachrach arrangement to me.

Next: Andy Williams scored big with Movie themes written by Henry Mancini. The first one that he sang at the Academy Awards was Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffanys; it won the Oscar for best song. Johnny Mercer wrote the lyrics. And afterwards, it became Andy's theme song.

After Moon River, Mancini followed up with another movie theme, which was a big hit for Andy. And believe it or not, Mancini had a third big hit for Andy which was also a movie theme. There was a fourth one too, but it wasn't that big of a hit.

For this question you can just give me 2 and 3--four can be extra credit. Don't forget to identify the lyricists.

Lav, Andy Williams is my favorite male singer. Thank you for answering that so well. Those are truly beautiful songs and Charade was a great movie too.

Lav, it's all yours--

Thanks Princess, all very beautiful songs :)

A May, December romance between these 2 very well known stars was highly publicized in the 1970's. Who were these 2 ??

Those are the 2,  Dinah Shore and Burt Reynolds. They had a a very long relationship, 6 years. there was a 20 year difference in their ages. Their relationship was in the news alot. According to both they were very much in love. Sally and Burt's relationship also got a lot of press as did his failed marriage to Loni Anderson. It seems Burt's romances with Dinah and Sally meant the most to him. Good work, your thread DGF

Sally who?.......This successful largely white band had Scottish roots, yet their music was squarely in the soul r&b genre. Name of band?

Here's your question repeated- but I'm still shaking my head that you didn't know about Sally Field and Burt

He apparently liked her, he really liked her....

OK, this successful largely white band, with Scottish roots, recorded squarely in the soul r&b genre. Name of band?

It must be 'The Average White Band', which is somewhat integrated.  They have added and dropped several members over the years.  They toured in my state of Connecticut just last year.  Here is a clip that you might think of as improbable.  It's 'The Average White Band' appearing on "Soul Train" in the seventies.
