These two actresses share the same last name, though they were not related.

They both have very distinguished credits in the movies, but their claim to fame is television. Between the two of them they both appeared on many of the most popular classic television drama and comedy series of the 19 fifties and sixties.

Though not a regular of the series, one of these actresses actually received an Emmy nomination for her appearances on this popular sitcom in the sixties. And this actress also appeared in movies with Gary Cooper, Sidney Poitier and Elvis Presley.

The other actress has appeared in movies with Joel McCrea, Jane Wyman and Humphrey Bogart.

When you identify these two actresses, can you list some of their credits that were favorites of yours.

I believe that would be "Captain Kangaroo" on CBS in the mornings,  and "The Mickey Mouse Club" on ABC in the late afternoons.  Lavender, do you remember what each weekday's theme was on "The Mickey Mouse Club"?

Correct Miles. Captain Kangaroo and the Mickey Mouse show both premiered October 3, 1955.  CK- of course was CBS and MM was ABC. Offhand I don't remember the titles of the themes ( I was under 5 years old when the shows premiered) however I did watch both shows and remember bits and pieces of both. I looked up the themes they are:

Mon- Day With Music

Tues.- Guest Star Day

Wed- Anything Can Happen Day

Thurs- Circus Day

Fri- Talent Round Up Day

I loved both shows and I'd bet every baby boomer did too. Your thread senior citizen :D

A fifties TV sitcom had an unseen character who was often mentioned by her husband.  Later, that character was featured in a spin-off series.  Can you name the two shows, the character, and the actress who played her in the second series?

The character was Gladys Porter who was heard of but not seen in the first TV series "December Bride". The second TV series was "Pete and Gladys" and Gladys was played by Cara Williams (Harry Morgan played Pete in both TV series.)

Thanks, lavender,

I loved "December Bride" and the running gag theme that you never saw Pete's wife Gladys so I was delighted to see the TV series "Pete And Gladys" and the choice of Cara Williams was perfect. I guess you might designate this as one of the original "spin-offs".

Next:

Marlon Brando appeared in movies with many leading actresses but only once with each. However, he did appear two times with one leading actress .  Please name the actress and the two movies in which she appeared with Mr. Brando.

DGF - Absolutely right.  Marlon and Jean were charismatic together. I always thought they rose above the material they had to work with in these two films. I would have liked to see them featured in movies with better scripts. C'est la vie.

Great job. The thread is yours.

A minor DJ at WIBG-AM in Philadelphia  in the late '50s within a decade became a major pioneer in the history of radio. What was his name and what did he do?
