DownGoesFrazier
Here are some: Clint Eastwood - "Rawhide" Steve McQueen - "Wanted Dead Or Alive" James Garner - "Maverick" Roger Moore - "Maverick" Burt Reynolds - "Riverboat" and "Gunsmoke" And who could forget young Kurt Russell in "The Travels Of Jamie McPheeters"? I wasn't aware of Roger Moore, but you are the Oater man around here. Yours.
MilesArcher
Roger Moore played the English cousin, Beau Maverick. Speaking of westerns, can you name a few major movie stars who more or less ended their acting careers while starring in TV westerns?
DJBeacon
Ward Bond in "Wagon Train".

MilesArcher
While Ward Bond was in a lot of movies, he was usually a supporting player. James Arness was not a major movie star before "Gunsmoke". He was in several John Wayne films and a couple of science fiction movies, but he was never a major movie star. One man that I'm thinking of was once married to an actress who died quite recently. He was in two movies with the word Tripoli in the title. I'm also thinking of two women who had been major movie stars. They also starred in TV westerns. One of them appeared in some later TV shows, but not as the lead actress. The other one died during the production of her western series.
Princess of Tap
My grammar school lunch hour was at home watching John Payne in the Restless Gun-- soup and a sandwich with John Payne. I remember Joan Blondell and Here Comes the Brides with Bobby Sherman, of all people. And the last I only got with your clue-- I don't know how I remembered it-- Pistols 'n Petticoats with Ann Sheridan-- she died during the Run. MilesArcher
Correct on all counts, Princess. John Payne was married to Gloria DeHaven at one time. She just died recently. He had been in both "To The Shores Of Tripoli" and "Tripoli" with Maureen O'Hara. In "The Restless Gun", John Payne played Vint Bonner, who seemed to wander the west running into trouble wherever he went. He had a different kind of gun. It was a six shooter with a barrel extension that screwed on and a stock that attached to the handle to make it into a rifle. I had the toy version of it. Ann Sheridan had suffered the fate of many leading ladies. As they got older, movie parts were few and far between. So she agreed to do the TV series, "Pistols 'n Petticoats", where she played the sheriff of a town. Unfortunately, Ann was diagnosed with cancer during the run of the show. She died at age fifty-one. I had forgotten about Joan Blondell in "Here Come The Brides", although she did not play the lead, she was certainly one of the stars. The one that I thought that would be the most remembered was Barbara Stanwyck as Victoria Barkley in "The Big Valley". Although she later had a recurring role on "Dynasty", I don't believe that she ever made another theatrical feature after "The Big Valley". Princess, maybe we could call you "The Restless Tapper"! You're up next.

After all if you get to kiss Dr. Kildare, you're still in the big time. PS-- I'm most impressed with your Restless Gun replica. When you sold that, I hope you got as much money as I got for my Shirley Temple doll. LOL

It got thrown out with all the other old toys. My brother had the toy version of the sawed off shotgun that Steve McQueen carried in "Wanted Dead Or Alive". I also had a toy derringer like the one Jock Mahoney used in Yancy Derringer. It fit into a belt buckle and when you pushed your stomach out, it popped out and pointed at your enemy. All you had to do was pull the trigger. Princess, I'm surprised that you didn't have the Annie Oakley outfit or Annie's six guns. By the way, it's still your turn to post the next question.

But I had to make do with my brother's old cap guns. Next-- this lady was one of the most famous quiz show participants in classic television. She also was successful in morning strip television. In other words, her name was a household word. However, she started her career as an actress. She appeared in a billed role in one of Universal's early classic horror films. So when you identify her, please also give us the name of the film and the star, as well.

DJ-- very good Did you see this a few weeks back on Svengoolie? It's a real classic among classics. Yesterday I saw Steve Forrest in a 1950's version, I think it was on TCM. DJBeacon
Thanks, Princess. I did catch the Steve and Karl version yesterday morning on TCM. He was the premier TV game show announcer for many years working on many different shows. What is his name and most famous catchphrase from which game show? DJBeacon
No, this guy was a bit more contemporary than Bill. And this is the announcer rather than the host.

MilesArcher
On "The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis", Dobie's beatnik friend, Maynard G. Krebs, was played by Bob Denver. What did Maynard say that his middle initial "G' stood for? Hint: It was not a name that started with "G". Bonus question: What later TV series had a character with the last name Krebs?
DJBeacon
Live and learn. Not Groot, like I first thought. It looks like the "G" stood for Walter, from his Aunt Walter. Other Krebs in TV: Mildred Krebs in "Remington Steele" and a whole family of Krebs in the series "Star of the Family" to name a few
MilesArcher
Yes, the G stood for Walter. The Krebs that I was thinking of was Ray Krebs, played by Steve Kanaly on "Dallas". It was revealed somewhere in the run of the show that Ray was the illegitimate son of Jock Ewing, making him the half-brother of J.R. and Bobby. DJBeacon, it's your thread now.
