MilesArcher
Now that you've mentioned it, Princess, I do recall Hartz Mountain as a sponsor. Now, Walt Disney struck gold with the first Davy Crockett series. He wanted to do more, but Davy and his pal George Russell died at the Alamo. What did Walt do? He had his writers come up with a story involving an incident earlier in Davy's life where Davy and George get involved with river pirates. Here are the questions. What kind of boats were Davy and George traveling on in the series? Can you remember the names of any of the boats? These are what you might call timely questions. You can get back to me later tonight. The reason that I said they were timely questions was because TCM ran "Davy Crockett And The River Pirates" a couple of hours after my post. You would have had to watch it to know all the answers. First of all, Davy, George, and Mike Fink were on keelboats on the Ohio River. In the first half of the movie Davy and George were on the Bertha Mary in a race with Fink's boat, the Gullywhumper. In the second half, they are now all friends and returning up river, They come upon an abandoned keelboat called the Monongahela Belle. They know that the pirates are near, so they disguise Fink's boat and rename it "Bonanza". Les try another question. In the 1950's TV series "Lassie", we know that Jan Clayton played the boy's mother at the start of the series, and June Lockhart played the mom later on. However, another actress played that role in between those two. Do you remember who she was? Here's a hint: She will be seen in a movie tonight on TCM. I watched the Mickey Mouse cartoon with Donald Duck and Goofy. It was terrific. I didn't watch the rest of it. Again, Miles, you can't miss with A Lassie question. MilesArcher
You got it, Princess. Cloris played Timmy's mom for one season before June Lockhart took over the role. June had previously worked with Lassie in a movie called "Son Of Lassie" with Peter Lawford. It's your turn, Princess.

lavenderblue19
Thanks Princess One of the actors on this popular tv series in the 60's walked off the show demanding a bigger part. He was replaced by another teen idol for a couple of episodes. The original actor got what he wanted and returned to this long running series and his replacement no longer had a role on the show. TV show, name the 2 teen idols ???
MilesArcher
I think that it was Edd "Kookie" Byrnes who walked off "77 Sunset Strip". I don't remember who replaced him, but I'll guess Troy Donahue, who was quite popular at that time.

But definitely Troy did not appear on strip. Briefly Kookie's replacement was for two seasons Robert Logan.

However you are correct he was not the replacement for Edd. Robert Logan was. I got the info from 3 different sites that Troy was the replacement for Edd. My face is a little red, however that's the first time in over 8 years that my info wasn't accurate. Sorry about that and Miles gets the thread anyway. Princess of Tap
I was maybe Kookie's biggest fan-- I even bought his records. So I'm not average/normal. Miles-- you got me on a WB question, so I'm a little embarrassed too. My Man Miles is still up--
lavenderblue19
I always watched 77 every Friday night, although I was under 10 for the first few years of the show so no way do I remember Edd Brynes leaving the show for awhile As much as I loved all the characters including Kookie, my very favorite of the WB shows was Adventures In Paradise but I watched all of the WB shows, Really miss those times and all those shows .Scotty beam me back PLEASE! LOL Miles, you're up
MilesArcher
Didn't Robert Logan later play the father in the Wilderness Family movies? I found a clip of Robert Logan and Edd Byrnes together. Now, this one might be a challenge. There was a character actor who played a Mexican sidekick to the hero in a 50's TV western series. He also played a Spanish soldier in the "Zorro" TV series. Apparently typecast, he played Hispanic roles in many TV shows, including several episodes of "The Flying Nun". Strangely, he was from Brooklyn and of Russian-Jewish descent. He had worked as an actor in radio and had a talent for dialects. Do you know his name? Here's a hint: He played an Indian, sorry, Native American, in a 60's comedy western TV series.

MilesArcher
Si, si, Lavender. I thought that was a tough one. By the way, besides being from Brooklyn, Don Diamond had a brother named Neil. No, not the singer. Don Diamond also played Crazy Cat in "F Troop" in the sixties. You can see Don in this clip with Bill Williams. Senorita Lavenderblue, tu eres el siguiente, which I believe means you're up next.
lavenderblue19
Mucho Gracias Senor Miles Throughout the 50's, 60's 70's and beyond this character actor was seen frequently as a regular and guest on many tv shows. lavenderblue19
What relevance does "ON THE WATERFRONT rather than MARTY" have in TV history? After quite a bit of thought and a headache doing so,not sure but I think you might be asking about Herb Stempel and his whistle blowing on the game shows on tv. He knew that the correct answer to the question asked when he was a contestant on 21 ,what film won the Oscar in1955 was Marty, but he answered On The Waterfront allowing Charles Van Doren to win. The show was fixed creating the scandal and investigation and the later film was of course Redford's Quiz Show ???????????
