DownGoesFrazier
After quite a bit of thought and a headache doing so,not sure but I think you might be asking about Herb Stempel and his whistle blowing on the game shows on tv. He knew that the correct answer to the question asked when he was a contestant on 21 ,what film won the Oscar in1955 was Marty, but he answered On The Waterfront allowing Charles Van Doren to win. The show was fixed creating the scandal and investigation and the later film was of course Redford's Quiz Show ??????????? Perfect. Your turn. lavenderblue19
Perfect. Your turn. Thanks Although the theme song of this long running comedy tv show changed over the years, 2 famous guys wrote the music and lyrics and their song was sung at the end of the show by a famous swing group. Just the music was used at the beginning of the show and the song was sung at the end of the show during the first season. TV show, composer of the music and lyricist and the swing group who sang the the theme sang????

MilesArcher
For some reason, I was convinced that it had to be Livingston and Evans, who wrote theme music for "Mr. Ed" and "Bonanza". They also won three Oscars, but the other clues didn't fit. I finally figured it out. Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen wrote the theme music for "Hazel". It was an instrumental recording at the beginning of the show and it was sung by The Modernaires at the end of the show. Here is a clip. You can always fast forward to hear the theme music. Exactly the right answer Miles Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen wrote the theme music for Hazel and the Modernaires sang the song at the end of the show over the credits. The song with the lyrics was used during the first seasons 8 episodes. Excellent Miles and thanks, your thread
MilesArcher
Thanks, Lavender. That was a very good question. The Modernaires, for those who don't know, were a singing group that became famous for working with Glenn Miller's orchestra. They backed up vocalists like Tex Beneke, Ray Eberle, and Marion Hutton. Now, an actor who was one of the stars of a long running detective movie series in the thirties and forties, had a role on a popular western TV series, where he played a cook. In the movie detective series, he wasn't the main star, but he was the number two star. Can you name him, as well as both the movie series and TV series that I referred to? MilesArcher
Did Keye Luke play a cook? Sorry, that's not the right actor, but you are going in the right direction. In fact, you are very close. There's a clue in my original post where I said that he wasn't the main star, but he was the number two star.
lavenderblue19
Victor Sen Yung played the Cartwrights cook on Bonanza. He was Sidney Toler's #2 son in the Charlie Chan films ??
MilesArcher
Correct, Lavender. Victor Sen Yung, who was sometimes just billed as Sen Yung, took over from Keye Luke about the time that Sidney Toler took the role of Charlie Chan when Warner Oland passed away. When Sen Yung served in the military in World War II, the role of the son was played by Benson Fong. Keye Luke had played the number one son. Sen Yung played number two son, Jimmy Chan. Years later, Sen Yung was cast as Hop Sing, the Cartwright's cook, on "Bonanza". Good job, Lav. You're up next.

Princess of Tap
This popular syndicated TV show in the late fifties was based on another very popular movie from the early 1950s. The movie starred several big female movie stars, but the TV show featured several unknown actresses. One later became a very big TV star with her own Series in the 1960s. If you can remember the name of the movie, then it won't be hard to know the name of the TV show because it's the same title. Please don't forget to identify all the actresses involved. Miles, you may be the Fred Astaire of the quiz-- Fred did all those hard steps and made them look so easy. Miles, you have earned a turn--
MilesArcher
Thank you, Princess. That's the first time that I've ever been compared to Fred Astaire in any way. Now, here is a two part question. The TV series "Happy Days" was adapted from a story that first appeared on an ABC network show that aired on Fridays from the late sixties to the mid-seventies. There were usually two or three different stories in the hour-long show. During the first season of the show, the theme music was sung by a popular musical group of the day. The question is this: What was the name of the hour-long show and which popular musical group sang that theme song during the first season? Please answer both parts of the question. Don't be confused. I am not looking for the theme music for "Happy Days". I am instead looking for the theme music for the hour-long Friday show. MilesArcher
Yes, that's correct. Tell me, Lawrence, did you know it was The Cowsills, or did you look it up? I just saw the Cowsills, or what's left of them, perform on Thursday at The Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Massachusetts. There were brothers Bob and Paul with sister Susan, as well as a back-up band. Another brother, John, performs with them occasionally. Here is their recording of "Love, American Style". You're up, Lawrence.

You're up, Lawrence. Miles, I have some information for you that has to do with The Beach Boys, of course. John Cowsill is now a drummer and vocalist with Mike Love's touring Nostalgia band, using the name The Beach Boys. However, John did actually appear with the real Beach Boys during their 2012 Anniversary World Tour, as one of the backup musicians. According to Lawrence, This Thread is still open--
