lavenderblue19
Thanks Princess I watched TCM early this morning and there was the doc on Tupperware, ( actually I've seen this doc before on TCM) and there was Anita Bryant singing at one of the Tupperware conventions LOL. She really was a piece of work back then with her "moral" convictions, I remember it well. 2 actors were each in a film (2 different films, 1 actor in 1 film, the other in another film) directed by the same man. Both of the films are among this directors most famous films, in fact the 2 films are legendary. Shortly after, the same 2 actors were in a tv show together. Who were the 2 actors, what were the 2 films and what tv show, extra credit for the director of those 2 iconic films ??????

MilesArcher
Robert Vaughn was in "The Magnificent Seven", and David McCallum was in "The Great Escape". Both movies were directed by John Sturges. The two actors co-starred in "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." on TV.
lavenderblue19
Yes, Robert Vaughn in The Magnificent Seven, David McCallum in The Great Escape both directed by John Sturges and then they both co-starred in The Man From Uncle. I figured it wouldn't take too long once the decade was revealed. Watching The Man From Uncle right now and watched The Magnificent Seven for the 20 plus time the other night, it's a favorite of mine. I use to say good morning to David McCallum back in the 70's when I'd be on my way to work and he was walking his children to school. Very handsome and friendly man. Good work, your thread
MilesArcher
Thanks, Lav. A former member of the Our Gang comedies was a young adult when he was one of the stars of a fifties science fiction TV show. However, he had to be replaced before the end of the first season because he was serving time in jail for carrying a concealed weapon. Can you name the actor and the TV show? Miles, you totally freak me out! A couple of days ago I was doing some research on this particular child actor because his story is just so tragic. Scotty Beckett - - and the TV show was Rocky Jones Space Ranger
MilesArcher
Yes, his life was tragic. He was a cute child actor who appeared in some very big movies, but like many child stars, when he grew up the cuteness vanished and so did the roles. He became a gambler and drinker. He was arrested many times and he finally died at age 38 in a nursing home after suffering a sever beating. Rocky Jones starred Richard Crane. Scotty Beckett played crew member Winky. That's Scotty on the left. The show was sponsored by Silvercup bread, which built a model of the space ship and sent it around the country to promote the show. They even gave visitors a miniature loaf of bread. Sorry I freaked you out, Princess. You're up next.
lavenderblue19
Princess before you post one I just want to say something about Scotty Beckett. He was a fav of mine. He was the most adorable baby and child actor. A few years back I read about his downward spiral into drugs and gambling. It is heartbreaking to think that his life turned out to be so miserable. He was talented and a great addition to the films he appeared in. Very, very sad.

But it was Scotty Beckett who got the thing rolling in the first place. I think it's one of the best performances I've ever seen a boy of that age do aside, from Mickey Rooney's work. The other person I often think of is Alfalfa - - he was one of the few of the other Our Gang kids who was given a lot of opportunities to do work later on in life, but it didn't quite work out for him. And then there's one of my personal favorites - - Bobby Blake. Almost makes you wonder if there was a hex on these guys? Next: this actor is largely forgotten today, but he had a lot of good credits in movies and television. He appeared in a number of war movies. Also he had some Choice supporting roles in movies which starred Humphrey Bogart, Dean Martin, and William Holden. But his main claim to fame was his work in classic TV, especially on Anthology series, like Loretta Young, Dick Powell, and Walt Disney.

MilesArcher
How about Dewey Martin? He played Daniel Boone in several episodes of Walt Disney's show. He was in a couple of films with Bogart, including "The Desperate Hours". He was in "The Proud And The Profane" with William Holden, and "Ten Thousand Bedrooms" with Dean Martin. He also appeared on Loretta Young's show, as well as Dick Powell's "Zane Grey Theater".

Another Bullseye for Miles - - Well, Dewey Martin was hardly my favorite Walt Disney star - - but he did a good job as Daniel Boone. I thought of this question while I was recently watching The Dean Martin movie. Dewey was a credible actor and when I saw that he had worked closely with Bogie and Bill Holden, then I knew that he was ripe for a question. Unfortunately for Dewey, Fess Parker Cornered the market on those coonskin hat heroes. Miles, it's your turn--
