That's correct, Lawrence. Hopalong Cassidy was the main character in a series of novels by Clarence Mulford.  The "Hopalong Cassidy" show brought William Boyd a whole new generation of fans.  I believe that the series is shown on COZI-TV.  By the way, the theme song was written by Nacio Herb Brown, who wrote many movie songs with Arthur Freed for MGM musicals.  Lawrence, your next.

This rugged-looking actor with a terrific speaking voice starred in 2 TV series in the 1950's. One show was the first of its kind, the other was a huge success and featured a theme song beloved by most boomers.

Name this actor, and the two shows referenced above.

My first guess would be Paladin, Paladin where do you roam? Paladin, Paladin so far from h-o-m-e. That of course would be Richard Boone. Medic was the 1st show in the '50's and Have Gum Hill Travel would be the series with the theme song we love. Just watched some episides last week ???

That's correct, lav! I just read that Medic was the first show to detail medical procedures.

Your turn!  :)

I think the last clue cinched it for me.  I think it's Ronny Howard (now Ron Howard).  While appearing as Opie on "The Andy Griffith Show", he played the little brother of Shirley Jones in "The Music Man".  The next year, in "The Courtship Of Eddie's Father", Shirley played a prospective wife for his father, played by Glenn Ford.  Of course, he won his Oscars years later for directing and producing.

You got it Miles :) What's interesting is that in both The Andy Griffith Show and in the film The Courtship of Eddie's Father, Ron plays the son of a widower, an important point in both the tv show and the film. Both his brother Clint Howard and his father Rance Howard appeared in some episodes of The Andy Griffth Show. Shirley Jones and Ron were brother and sister in The Music Man and we are lead to believe that in Eddie's Father, Shirley's character will become Ron's characters step mom at some point.

Ron Howard has has an amazing career. Thanks Miles for sticking with it, and the Great photos,Good work, your thread ;)

Thanks, Lav.  It was a great question and you didn't give it away by saying "child actor" in any of the clues.  I wasn't thinking of any child actors until the last clue.  I know it can get frustrating when you give clue after clue and nobody gets it, but in this case I'm kind of glad that you did.

Now, speaking of young performers. a couple of former mouseketeers worked together in an episode of a sixties TV series.  In the episode, one of them sang a song to the other.  Can you name the two of them and the show?  Bonus points if you can name the song.  It was not a Disney show.

What 2 things do Family Affair, My Three Sons and The Brady Bunch have in common ( besides being sit-coms) ???

edited by me :)

I am a big fan of My Three Sons. I watched it all the way through--

1960 - 1972.

Family Affair was too sugary for me, but they had some very good actors on there.

As for The Brady Bunch, I watched it because there wasn't much else on anymore at the time that was reminiscent of the classic sitcoms, but it certainly is a mediocre imitation. But it had a couple of good actors on there.

So it's only by snatching bits of pieces of those last two on ME-TV that I noticed that Frank DeVol wrote themes for those last two.

I was always so impressed with DeVol's theme for My Three Sons because it sounded like how you would imagine that Fred MacMurray would play the saxophone.

DeVol is correct. Enormously talented man. He was a composer, arranger and an actor. He's composed so many theme songs for tv and films and I've always been impressed by him.

You didn't give the 2nd thing that the 2 shows had in common, I'll repost that as a question another time. However, it's the DeVol part that was important, so good work. Your thread Princess :)

Thanx-- now the only other thing that I came up with was that Don Fedderson produced the first two shows and I don't really know if he had anything to do with the third one.

Lav, did you have something else in mind?

Yes, there is something else, but you need to think about the storylines to answer that part of the question. As I said though, DeVol was really the important part and the other part has nothing to do with DeVol or the production of the shows. I'll repost that part of the question another time, Princess the thread is yours

This man was a well-known satirist-humorist, who started on radio and then went on to television. He appeared in movies and on television as an actor, but his main claim to fame was as a panelist for one of television's favorite classic TV quiz shows. During the McCarthy period, he was briefly Blacklisted.

When you identify this man, can you also name the famous quiz show?
