FredCDobbs
They just showed Mr. Osborne in some Folgers commercials from the early 1960s, and also other commercials. He looks so different. I think one of these might be him: Maybe the guy at the small breakfast table, and the one operating the slide projector?? -------------------------------------------- Is this him?? hamradio
What I can find out, Robert Osborne has very little screen credits and appeared in no commercials I can tell. I had a heck of a time finding his photos taken in 1962 when he was working for Desilu. shot[/i]2013-10-26at11.50.02+PM.png]
FredCDobbs
Early in the interview, they showed several of his 1961 commercials for Folgers and for a cigarette company and some other product. He didn't look at all like he looks now. I've never seen these film clips before, and I didn't know about this.
fxreyman
Unfortunately Fred he is in neither of these two sets.
FredCDobbs
This will be on again at 11:30 PM Eastern Time.
Dargo2
Right again, fx. Bob is none of those husbands in any of those Folgers commercials. (...however, I DO believe at 2:04 the young wife was played by Yvonne Craig, and at 2:18 that's Donna Mills playing the same role)
fxreyman
Good. Then you can watch it again and see if you can spot him. None of the actors in any of those commercials is Robert Osborne. You better catch him since I don't get TCM anymore.
hamradio
Like to mention, I did like the first commercial - going in approx 3 min, the wife was shocked stating *You'll kill the petunias!*. OK, now I know what to use in place of Roundup. ****!
Fedya
Four or five of the commercials they showed were for different beers. It made me wonder whether Robert Osborne was a lush back in the early 1960s. :-)
Tikisoo
I've seen those old photos of Robert Osborne before....I think he looks the same-the only thing that's changed is the color of his hair and he's gotten just a bit thicker (as we all have or will do) I completely recognize him. Sepiatone
Back in the '90's, a buddy of mine got a VHS tape of old commercials that show some with people who became famous later on. Don't know if RO is in any of them. But there WAS a REESE'S ad where ROBBIE BENSON and DON MOST( Ralph Malph) collide, causing a fusion of chocolate and peanut butter. AND a much slimmer JOHN GOODMAN tells us how GOOOD his jeans feel against his skin. Interesting stuff. Sepiatone
Dargo2
So Sepia, did YOU recognize Yvonne Craig(yum) and Donna Mills in that collage of Folgers commercials which I mentioned earlier in this baby?
Sepiatone
Sorry. Didn't pay that close attention. Sepiatone
Dargo2
WHAT?! How could ANYONE overlook that **** Yvonne Craig in ANYTHING, dude???!!! (...she just did somethin' to me back in the day...might have been my first crush...well, okay, AFTER Shari Lewis anyway!)
mrroberts
Dargo, you will want to catch that classic Elvis movie coming up tomorrow, "Kissin Cousins" . It has Yvonne Craig and what may have been my first crush, the Dodge Rebellion girl, Pam Austin

FredCDobbs
This is Bob Osborne, for Sure. I recorded the second airing of the interview, and this is one of his Viceroy commercials from 1960:
DownGoesFrazier
He should be ashamed of himself.
FredCDobbs
Bob worked for a Modeling agency, and they got him the random commercials for various products.
scsu1975
No one mentioned the appearance of Virginia Christine in those commercials that Fred found. She was a good-looking actress in the 1940s, appearing in one of the Universal Mummy movies. Somehow, she ended up married to Fritz Feld.
DownGoesFrazier
You may be the only person in the United States who knows that Virginia Christine (who?) married Fritz Feld (who?) Edited by: finance on Jan 7, 2014 3:27 PM
scsu1975
Nah. And everyone knows Fritz Feld. He was always popping his mouth in the movies.
RMeingast
This thread seems kinda fun... << Bob worked for a Modeling agency, and they got him the random commercials for various products. >> By the looks of this commercial ( ), Mr. Osborne was hired as a finger model as his two fingers get more time than the rest of him... Watch Mr. Osborne in the pilot episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies" from September 1962 here: P.S. Modelling is British/Canadian spelling
RMeingast
Supposedly you can view the 1958 episode of "The Californians" with Robert Osborne as Corey Harris ("Dangerous Journey" - Season 2, Episode 9) here: http://www.tvduck.com/The-Californians.html Note: I haven't done the "Create a free account" thing to view the episode. SO BEWARE! It may simply be a scam. You can buy a video that includes the Robert Osborne episode of "The Californians" here: http://otrdvd.co/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=889 "Dangerous Journey" is the episode with Mr. Osborne. FredCDobbs
I loved hearing his stories about how easy it was for him to fall into just the right place at the right time with the right people. Man, what luck! Of course he had the talent too.
