I'am A New Member To TCMs Message Boards {since The Begging Of The Month} And Have Not Seen Anyone Disuess Gone With The Wind. I Own Over 6 Thousand Films, And Have Many Favorites, But The All Time Grand Daddy Is Gone With The Wind. Todays Films Don't Come Close, Or Compare With GWTW. Great Acting, Story And Of Course The Great Max Steiner Score. Let Me Know What You Think. If You Agree, Or Dissagree. I Look Forward To Hearing What Peoples Opions Are on This Subject. Sincerly, Xxmass.

and pardon me for not saying it before.

I just thought you might be an old poster, posting anew.

GWTW is a classic to be sure, and I even enjoy watching the beginning credits, with the words moving like the wind across the screen.

There are many fans of it here, so you should enjoy yourself. My favorites in it are Victor Jory, who I think is always marvelous and Isabel Jewell.

Wow...6,000 films. Are these a combination of video and dvd? Are you one of those who tries to replace every old video copy with a new dvd one? What would you say is your main area of interest in films?

Have fun posting at TCM!

Favorite line:

Here's mine -- It comes from Pork (butler) when Miss Scarlett tells him she's going to ask Ashley for the tax money: "Askin' ain't gettin'"

Gosh, isn't that the truth"???

Favorite dress:

Mine--the dress Scarlett wore to the Twelve Oaks BBQ.

Most annoying character:

Mine -- India Wilkes

I love the movie Gone With The Gone also. It's great. The first time I saw it was for a school project. I wish I had more projects like that one. Anyway I have to agree with alix1929 on the best dress. My favorite lines are:

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." and

the whole "God Is My Witness" part.

Hi Alix1929, I've Seen Gone With The Wind More Then 200 Times. You Could say I'am Nuts But In My Opion It's The Greatest Film That Was Ever Made.I Own 5 Copies, Plus 2 DVDs Maybe It's a Fedish LOL. Besides The Line Frankly My Dear I Don't Give A Dam, One Of my Favorite Lines Are I Know Nothing ABout Birthing Babies. Some Of My Friends Dislike GWTW, They Think It's a 4hour Soap Opera, We Argrue About It all The Time LOL. But I Think They Do It Just As A Tease. Now I'am not Saying That GWTW is The Only Film I watch. I Own Over 6 Thousand Films That Date Back From 1910 To The Present 2005. But As I Said In My Last Post It's The Grand Daddy Of them All. Please Keep In Touch, And Let Me Know What Your Likes, and Dislikes Are. I Look Foward From Hearing From You, And Anyone That Loves Film. Speak With You Soon Sincerly, Larry. P.S " Frankly My Dear I Do Give A Dam".

I've always liked GWTW, and one of the things that has made it very special for me was getting to see it in a large movie theatre before I purchased it on home entertainment media. There's really nothing like seeing a movie like this on "the big screen". I hope others here have had the pleasure. During the Intermission, a man brought in for this special event played music from the movie on the huge pipe organ in this theatre. Max Steiner's score is one of the best scores ever, IMHO. I loved how he developed "themes" for every major character in the movie.

Hello Classicsfan, I Just Read Your Post And It Remined Me Of My Childhood. I Also Saw GWTW The First Time On A Big Screen WOW. At Intermission I Stood Up And Began Putting On My Jacket, And Hat, My Father Looked At Me And Said " Where Are You Going?" I Told The Movie Was Great And I Was Getting Ready To Leave. My Father Looked At My Mother And They Both Started To Laugh. My Mother Then Said To Me " Sit Down Honey There's Another 2 Hours Left Of The Film". Wow Sincerly, Larry.

GWTW is a wonderful movie, but no the only movie hence all the wonderful dicussions on these message boards. I love GWTW, my favorite seen is when Mammy and Melanie ascend the staircase after Bonnie dies, heading for Scarlett and Rhett. So so very touching, makes me cry every time! I can never take my eyes off that scene. :)

Oh, Larry step into the GWTW den and have a seat. Have you read the book also?? I read it and read it over and over and over again. I'd watch it too if I hadn't packed it. I'll soon be moving(hope, hope) into my own Tara. See, someone spoke of Pork's line- asking ain't getting- it is not his line he didn't say it Will Benteen did. Also Rhett wasn't present at the Wilkes' as Melly was dying like he is in the movie and therefore didn't storm out. Mammy also didn't say He's her husband ain't it-it was Will Benteen and the spider reference-there you'll be waiting for him just like a spider it ain't in the book. All in all though they didn't mess it up to bad. I love GWTW.

Like ML, I have seen GWTW in a theater. It was my late mothers favorite movie. To hear that great musical score in a theater was an event. GWTW was re-released years ago in widescreen and stereophonic sound!!!I for one am glad it never happened again

GWTWbooklover, I didn't know Will Benteen was the original "speaker" of the "askin' ain't gettin'" line in the movie. His was a character that didn't make the movie. Sort of too bad, the plot between Careen & Suellen was interesting. Still a movie can't include everything from a book.

I also think, even though the movie strayed from the book, it is still fairly true to the thread of the book.

Re: Scarlett's children in the book. Who were they, and who were their fathers? I know she had several, but can't remember any but Bonnie Blue & Ella.

Re: Archie. I always wondered why he wasn't in the movie. Any thoughts?

Hi gwtwbooklover, Yes I Have Read It 3 Times LOL. Belive It Or Not The Book Is A Little Better. Have You Seen The Sequel Scarlet?? Ouch What a Bomb. Without Gabel, Leigh. And The Rest Of The Orig Cast, Well It's Just Not the Same. I Would See It, If You Hav'nt, And Judge For Yourself. Hey Keep In Touch See You In The Den LOl. Sincerly, Larry.

Oh man GWTW is one of the best ever isn't it?

My favorite scene is when Gable puts his hands on Scarlett's tiny head and threatens to squeeze Ashely Wilkes out of her head. And then of course "this is one night you're not turning me out"

I still hope everytime I see it that he won't leave her the next morning. It breaks my heart everytime. I yell at Scarlett to stop him, as though I might be able to change the course of the movie.

Gable was amazing in that movie. Amazing.

Dear xxmass Larry,

At the risk of becoming personal, I really need to ask: What is it with you and the damn shift key?

You may have some valid points Honey, but I never get to what they are, as I can't get past you capitalizing every *&$#ing word, except when you neglect to do so at the most appropriate time; the beginning of sentences. It's really annoying, and your spelling is running a very close second.

We all make grammatical errors, errors in spelling, and typographical mistakes, but not consistently, or on purpose.

You claim to read books. Darlin' take a week off from watching movies, read one now, and look at what's capitalized, then get with the program. Please! Unless of course you're the ghost of Don Marquis and headed in an entirely new direction... then I have only one thing to say, quoting Emily Litella, "Never mind".

I'm sorry you're here "to disuse films". It would be better if you were here to discuss them!!!

In other words, Gypsy has a point.

Neil

P.S. - And by the way, "I'am" is not correct either. The contraction is "I'm".

Yours for better grammar and spelling...so good luck!

Hey Neil, Gyspy, this will be my last post. It's sad how you make a person feel. I could put you both down also, but I would'nt go down to your levels. Again thanks for making me feel so welcome. Larry.
