allthumbs
In addition to Oscar features airing in Feb, TCM is filling in the time between features with Oscar nominated and Oscar winning shorts. (Most are in the One Reel category, but there are a few in the Two Reel cat. Later, the number of reels designation was dropped.) During the first weekend on Feb 1 & 2 three shorts will be shown each day. Sat, Feb 1: 949 AM Sword Fishing (1939) (fishing with bow and arrow, now that's a PC incorrect subject if there ever was one). 745 PM Prophet Without Honor (1939) The story of Mathew Maury, who found ways to chart ocean currents and to systematically use the information. 946 PM More About Nostradamus (1940) (for all the Nostradamus believers who have interpreted him correctly.) Sun, Feb 2: 1159 AM Stop Look and Listen (1967) (traffic safety film) 159 PM Overture to the Merry Wives of Windsor (1953) 1137 PM Star in the Night (1945) Oscar winner for Two Reel Short (it also gives TCM a chance to show a Christmas film outside of Christmas season and have a reason for doing so.) usually Oscar nominated/winning shorts take up the between the movies gaps in Feb, but the titles aren't listed on the schedule till about a week before they are shown. so, more later. allthumbs
TCM added one more short, Service with the Colors (1940), on early Sun morning Feb 1/2 (Sat programming day) at 531 AM. This two reel Oscar nominated short doles out forgiving patriotism in big doses to a chip-on-his-shoulder GI who goes AWOL.
infinite1
What about the THREE STOOGES short MEN IN BLACK that was nominated for an Oscar? Is that scheduled to be on?
