I love this movie!

 

and saw that it was on so I taped it

I love the cinematography, the musical score

it is a movie you can watch over and over again

I think back in the day when promoting it they made a mistake in focusing on the strawberry scene

I think that cheapened & sensationalized it and also all the bad publicity over Roman Polansky didn't help

 

this is a visual masterpiece

It's more subtle than one might think from the Masterpiece Theatre ambience. I recall Tess having to be taught whistling by Alec, how Angel's flute-playing segues into the sound of a buzzling fly, and the strange groundsman at the hotel Angel arrives at the climax.

I haven't seen this film in many years. I read a great deal of Hardy and did some work on Hardy for my first Master's Degree, and I remember the film as beautiful and very faithful to the book. Natacha Kinski at some points resembles a very young Ingrid Bergman.
