RMeingast
New flick "Pompeii" opened recently:http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/pompeii_2013/ Funny review by Mark Breslin and Richard Crouse says film has plenty of "molten cheese" and that volcano is best actor in it: http://metronews.ca/voices/reel-guys/948847/pompeii-movie-offers-cardboard-acting-and-plenty-of-molten-cheese/ See TCM aired the 1913 "The Last Days of Pompeii": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Days_of_Pompeii_%281913_film%29 waaaaaaay back in 2002, but not sure if TCM has ever aired the other films from 1926: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Days_of_Pompeii_%281926_film%29 1935: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Days_of_Pompeii_%281935_film%29 1950: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Days_of_Pompeii_%281950_film%29 or 1959: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Days_of_Pompeii_%281959_film%29 or the one from 1975: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/560115/Last-Days-of-Pompeii/ And not sure about "Up Pompeii" from 1971: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_Pompeii_%28film%29 Any other films about the Vesuvius disaster of 79 A.D., feel free to add them... joefilmone
I saw it and it's hokey beyond belief- it doesn't even work a camp. Director Anderson was aiming for a "Titanic" like period disaster love story but the results are more like a Harlequin romance set in ancient Rome. The script is made up of bits from better movies. Shuvcat
I bet none of them are as good as the vid for Cities in Dust by Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Vertigo2
I saw it today - hokey and farfetched, but I enjoyed it on its own Saturday matinee kind of popcorn movies level. Enjoyed the volcano /destruction in 3D. If I were a kid, I would have loved it.
