Seeing MARTY and MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT back-to-back made me realize how much Chayefsky relies on the ailments and aches and pains of aging, and the fact of acquaintances dying, as a prime component of dialogue, both for humor and otherwise. Both films had it in spades.
