OOO
Hello, I am a artist and work mostly with film and/or film history. I'm preparing to make a film documenting places around California that have "played" other parts of the world. As I understand it it was one of the many important factors why the film-production moved from Hoboken to California, that the topography of Los Angeles & California can provide almost any setting one could imagine, from Norwegian mountains to Chinese rice-fields, not to mention outer space. Now I'm trying to find as many places as possible and thought that maybe this was a good place to put up a question. Everything is of interest. But what I'm mostly interested is to locate places around California that have played other parts of the world in silent film and early talkies. Do you need me to be more precise? Thank you for time, and looking forward to hear what you think of the project.
slaytonf
A good way of finding locations that have stood in for other places is to go to IMDb. Many times the locations will be listed. For example, these are the locations for Beau Geste: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0031088/locations?ref_=tt_dt_dt And for Morocco: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0021156/locations?ref_=tt_dt_dt Just scroll down to the Details section
SOLARCONCERT
Hello, I would like to let you know that my home town of Sierra Madre, California, was the main location for the film classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Each year the town celebrates "POD DAY" in memory of the making of this film. We have a facebook link to the Sierra Madre citizen website: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2204894695/ They will be very helpful as it is a large group of over 1500 folks that live or have lived in Sierra Madre. This is a very small town of less than 10,000 people and many will remember the filming of this classic. Best regards and good luck! Tony Nickoloff former Sierra Madre resident.
