bhryun
I don't know the name of the short you're describing but it sounds like one of the MGM "Dogville" shorts from the early '30s. The studio would do spoofs of films using the dogs - The Dogway Melody (is available on the DVD of "Broadway Melody"; I know there's a war spoof of Universal's ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT from 1930 and a spoof of THE BIG HOUSE from 1931, probably called "The Big Dog House". I can't say that I've found them as cute as you did, but they show up fairly frequently in between films on TCM.
johnnyweekes70
You are right, the title of the short is COLLEGE HOUNDS, the second All-Barkie short before MGM changed the name to the Dogville comedies. They're really quite silly (and almost cruel in a manner of thought). The guys that made most of those films also made SIDEWALKS OF NEW YORK with Buster Keaton in 1931. That really got Keaton's goat. alix1929
I'm afraid I don't like Dogville Comedies either. I've seen THE DOGWAY MELODY, and about 3 more, and I just wonder what people of the 30's thought about them.
