bhryun
Hi Therealfuster! Thanks so much. I saw that movie as a child and it left me with goosebumps, but I loved that movie. I will look for it at Bestbuys when I go there. Thanks again. I thought it was a great movie with E.G. Robinson.
therealfuster
on some of those inexpensive double discs, where it is teamed with another film. In a boxed set on VHS, which has some other suspense films, and on a separate DVD which is only about $7.99 at Best Buy and at Borders. Good luck, I'm sure you can find one of those in print. johnnyweekes70
THE RED HOUSE does come cheap but, as with all those inexpensive discs, the film is public-domain and most prints I've seen are pretty dreadful. One in particular, the GoodTimes edition, I think, was so bad I had to give to a local nursing-home where viewers aren't so picky. It would be nice if the film would some day be mastered from the original negative.
bhryun
Thanks for the advice. This is why I would like to see it on TCM. I'm sure that their version has been re-mastered and cleaned up. But I've not seen it listed in their schedule anywhere and I don't even know if they have this film in their vault.
therealfuster
and those scenes with the swaying trees in the forest could be so improved visually, if they would just do a proper remastering of the film. I have three versions of it, and the last one which is an individual disc of it, is not too bad. The really cheap one with two Eddie films, looks pretty wretched. Now, was it nice to give your crappy disc of "The Red House" to the nursing home folks???
johnnyweekes70
It appears THE RED HOUSE is not in the Turner library. The film was produced by Principal Pictures and released by United Artists. Like you, I'd appreciate a decent copy to include in my EGR collection; his performance is suitably creepy and a little different than what he was doing in his later career. Same thing for Fritz Lang's SCARLET STREET. Both films are in desperate need for restoration.
bhryun
SCARLET STREET!! Man what a film. I too would like to have a good copy of that one. It's too bad that they have not remastered them. They are really great movies.
markfp2
"The Red House" is one of my favorites and I've been trying to buy a decent copy for years, thus the ten copies I have on the shelf at the moment. Sadly, none of them are good and they all are dupped from the same beatup old 16mm print. Every scratch and splice is the same. So it goes in the world of public domain films. I'd love to see it restored, but perhaps the original materials no longer exist, which would be sad. As for "Scarlet Street", being it was a Universal release one could hope they could come up with something, but maybe they don't want to spend the money on a title they no longer own the rights to.
