June 12th is "Ida Lupino day"

Exactly.  And when I looked at that, it occurred to me (for the first time) that most of her biggest or more important films were in this genre.  It was her specialty.

Ida was very good in the noir ROADHOUSE.  She plays a slightly femme fatale type character but its Richard Widmark's  character who really goes off the tracks.  By the way in THE HITCH-HIKER Ida only does the directing, and its a very good noir film.

Right. Although she is just directing, it still proves that she was drawn to these kinds of stories and she seemed to prefer making these kinds of pictures, both in front and behind the camera.  Another good one in this vein is MOONTIDE, which she made at Fox before ROAD HOUSE.
