A fellow will remember a lot of things you wouldn't think he'd remember. You take me. One day, back in 1896, I was crossing over to Jersey on the ferry, and as we pulled out, there was another ferry pulling in, and on it there was a girl waiting to get off. A white dress she had on. She was carrying a white parasol. I only saw her for one second. She didn't see me at all, but I'll bet a month hasn't gone by since that I haven't thought of that girl.

"If you don't commit suicide, you will be poor."

"Poor?"

"Poor in the only real sense of the word, sir, in that you would not be rich.  You will have a little after you've sold everything, but in a country where every man is what he is, he who has very little is nobody very much.  There's no such thing as genteel poverty here, sir."

Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said, "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation." Don't be resigned to that. Break out!

Rose Cullen (Lauren Bacall):   "I have my points - if a man can stand the strain."

Luis Denard (Charles Boyer):  "It might be worth it - if he had the time."

Rose Cullen:                          "He'd find the time - if he wasn't a fool."

"You must think I'm a reeeal...dangerous...man."

John Wayne to Richard Boone in Big Jake.  I could rattle off 7 or 8 more from that movie that are among my all-time favorites.

I just saw the ending of this film last night;  I love that last exchange between Wayne and Boone:

Before he dies, Fain asks, "Who are you?" When Jake answers, "Jacob McCandles," Fain says, "I thought you was dead," as have other characters during the course of the film. “Not hardly," Jake replies.

"You beautiful creature. You love Zenobia, don’t you. It’s Zenobia who gives you the food that makes you strong and virile and the most beautiful of your kind."

-- Gale Sondergaard (Zenobia Dollard) to the man-eating plant to which she's feeding human blood.
