TCM Premieres

Recommended Posts

Could you possibly post these posts a bit earlier? I compile my list and set the DVR near the end of the previous month & have missed a few good premieres. I'm sifting through June right now.

Cmovieviewer is providing an added service to us all.  Please allow him to work at his own pace here.  If he were to put it out much sooner, it wouldn't be up to date with TCM's changes.

I find your list way easier to understand than Ohio's grid. Sorry, nothing personal Ohio-it's me, I have a tough time with grids.

No harm no foul.  I only take my reports up to a certain point, then it is up to others to interpret them from there.*  As I have mentioned before, Cmovieviewer adds to my info during each month, his premieres are more up to date.

* I use tables (grids) because in most cases a giant amount of information needs to neatly be conveyed in a basic computer format that anyone can read, and tables are practical for me to work with.  Anyhow it isn't about presentation, for me it's just about getting the information out there.  No additional software or licensing is required.  You don't even need an up-to-date web browser, the standards to view HTML Tables go back at least 25 years.  So it has its upsides.

Sorry if I’m being repetitive, but for an earlier look at the upcoming premieres go to my TCM schedule information page and check out the At-A-Glance schedule for the following month:

http://escapepress.com/tcmsched/tcm_overview.html

A list of the upcoming premieres is included on the last page of the document, which is normally published 4 weeks in advance.  For example, the AT-A-Glance schedule for June was published on May 1, and the July schedule will be coming out on June 1.  As MovieCollectorOH points out, the TCM schedules are subject to change at any time, so  I will update the document with the latest information just before the start of the month in question.

I also post a similar list here a few days before the start of the month to capture the most recent TCM schedule changes.  And thanks again to MovieCollectorOH for providing the data which makes this all possible.

Like The COTTON CLUB, TEXASVILLE & LILAC TIME? All premieres that have been cancelled numerous times. Tease.

Thanks for the AT A Glance link, I've bookmarked it. I really appreciate both of you for doing all this work.

I've spent the isolation sorting all my TCM DVD recordings & found so many duplicates-flibbertyjibbet- which is why I like premieres. (and sometimes I just don't spot them on the schedule)

Sat., 5-30 for                                                   THE ESSENTIALS: MOIRA SHEARER.........

(again, not on daily schedule...........) **

10:30 PM (ET)

Man Who Loved Redheads, The ( 1954)   **

British comedy that follows the romantic escapades of a married man, who as a young boy falls eternally in love with a redhead. He never forgets her and thus pursues extramarital affairs with redheads as the years progress.

Dir Harold French Cast Moira Shearer , John Justin , Roland Culver .

BW- 86 mins,

".....well-received in the U.S., with Variety deeming it "a light and wholly enjoyable British comedy" and The New York Times describing it as "a charming lark, light as a zephyr and just as welcome." The Times review continued: "Terrence Rattigan must have drunk copiously of that mysterious nectar that inspires some playwrights to weave bright comedy out of what is often flimsy, run-of-the-mill material... [His] situations and dialogue never lack for color and his lightweight dig at dalliance is a pleasure... In essaying the roles of the 'redheads,' Moira Shearer has developed acting talents that are both surprising and refreshing. The ballerina...moves gracefully from the role of a dewy-eyed 16-year-old, to a mincing Cockney, to a temperamental but tender Russian premire danseuse and, finally, to a smart manikin."

Thanks so much for posting this for us. I've never seen Judex, Seduced and Abandoned, Tiger Bay, or Mouchette, and would like to correct that. If you've never seen Maedchen in Uniform, enjoy the battle of good German lesbians vs. evil German lesbians in a girls' school.

late Sun., 5-7 for                                  TCM Imports............

2:15 AM
B/W - 98 m

TV-14

crime
Judex (1963)

Synopsis: Remake of a silent serial, concerning the adventures of a mysterious, pulp avenger.

DirGeorges Franju CastChanning **** , Francine Bergé , Edith Scob .

"This effortlessly cool crime caper, directed by Georges Franju, is a marvel of dexterous plotting and visual invention. Conceived as an homage to Louis Feuillade’s 1916 cult silent serial of the same name, Judex kicks off with the mysterious kidnapping of a corrupt banker by a shadowy crime fighter (American magician Channing ****) and spins out into a thrillingly complex web of deceptions.

Combining stylish sixties modernism with silent-cinema touches and even a few unexpected sci-fi accents, Judex is a delightful bit of pulp fiction and a testament to the art of illusion."

A Golden Globe Award for Best Promising Newcomer went to 17-year-old Tuesday Weld as Nichols' daughter Dorothy. .... The picture was a hit and brought new attention to Nichols' career. Tonight 5-11                                              JAZZ IN FILM..........

LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW:

😧 Archie Mayo. Benny Goodman and His Band, Linda Darnell, Jack Oakie, Lynn Bari, James Cardwell, Allyn Joslyn, Dickie Moore.

Thin story of trombonist Cardwell, a young man with "rough talent" who makes it big in Goodman's orchestra--and with pert deb Darnell. However, the King of Swing and his boys really cook, from the opening credits on; the jam session sequence is especially hot.

DirJim Jarmusch CastYouki Kudoh , Masatoshi Nagase , Screamin' Jay Hawkins .

".......Though not a box-office smash, Mystery Train was a great success at Cannes and on the festival circuit, eventually receiving attention from some of the Independent Spirit Awards. It marked a new period of prolific filmmaking for Jim Jarmusch and a new age of anthology films.

Mouchette (1967)

Synopsis: A neglected girl in rural France gets mixed up with a murderous poacher.

DirRobert Bresson CastNadine Nortier , Marie Cardinal , Paul Hébert .

"....It is fitting that the same director of The Trial of Joan of Arc (1962) should once again tackle the miseries of a woman suffering under the heel of male oppression.......Bresson is a man with a background in painting and philosophy who is looking for the distilled truth found in raw forms. Faces are only part of the canvas he uses to push viewers to transcend that which lies on the surface and to push them instead to focus on deeper interiors. Having spent more than a year in a German prison during WWII he certainly knows more than a thing or two about interiors. More importantly, he knows how to use those images to arrest the viewer. "

DirJacques Rivette CastBetty Schneider , Giani Esposito , Françoise Prévost

Film Critic Jonathan Rosenbaum liked the film: "Jacques Rivette’s troubled and troubling 1960 account of Parisians in the late 50s remains the most intellectually and philosophically mature, and one of the most beautiful.... Few films have more effectively captured a period and milieu; Rivette evokes bohemian paranoia and sleepless nights in tiny one-room flats, along with the fragrant, youthful idealism conveyed by the film’s title". ..............
