Thurs., 8-20   for                                     SUTS:  William Powell........

LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW:

😧 George S. Kaufman. William Powell, Ella Raines, Peter Lind Hayes, Arleen Whelan, Ray Collins, Hans Conried.

"Wit-playwright Kaufman's only directorial fling turns out quite well, with Powell as Senator whose diary causes embarrassment. Entertaining satire."

Well considering that The Miracle Of Sound (1940) is just a ten minute short, it is at least clear to me as I type this that there is a Ramona-sized gap.  So it will likely still play.

My Directv schedule still shows Ramona as scheduled, and in the past it has always been right. I'm recording it and crossing my fingers.

The on-screen schedule providers only know what they are told, which is through back channels that don't have the same repeating software issues as we see online.

I did happen to catch a recent instance of the on-screen schedule being wrong, but the online one being right.  I could look through my correspondence with others and track it down, because it was so unusual that we said something to each other about it.  It is not common, but it does happen.

Synopsis:
DirJohn Ford CastWill Rogers , Anne Shirley , Irvin S. Cobb .

"........worth a look to see an immensely popular and influential personality at work. Seen from today's perspective (and even among some in his own time), his "homespun" philosophy, easy-going storytelling style and appeals to common sense barely mask a rigid, reactionary populism that scorned intellect and sophistication and often traded heavily on stereotypes. Come to think of it, he may just be ripe for revival in the climate of 2020. ......"

😧 John Ford.   Cast: Will Rogers, Anne Shirley, Irvin S. Cobb, Eugene Pallette, Berton Churchill, John McGuire, Stepin Fetchit, Francis Ford, Pardner Jones, Charles Middleton.

"Enjoyable Ford/Rogers period piece of steamboat captain (Rogers) who pilots a ramshackle floating waxworks museum, from which he also dispenses highly alcoholic cure-all medicine. Shirley is particularly good as swamp girl taken in by Rogers. Churchill shines in comic role of river prophet "The New Moses." Climactic steamboat race is a gem. Released posthumously after Rogers' tragic death."

Thanks, too for separating the genres like you did, sometimes I just want ALL of something, like the Sat Matinees. (although not the Popeyes this time)

It's currently missing in the on-line schedule, but Merrily We Go To Hell (1932) has its TCM premiere on Tuesday evening at 9:15 pm ET.

Yeah, too bad these aren't listed on the schedule:

(Premieres)

Sep 1 - Merrily We Go to Hell (1932)?

Sep 9 - Mother Is a Freshman (1949)?

Sep 25 - C.C. and Company (1970)?

Sep 25 - J.C. (1972)?

Sep 27 - Island in the Sun (1957)?

I had to make my list for recordings and since the start times/duration aren't on the schedule, I had to skip recording them. I'm guessing all of these are part of the Women In Film.

Very Bad Schedule Listing!

Wed., 9-2 for                                         Bob Fosse........

@8:45 pm (ET)

All That Jazz   (1979)

Joe Gideon is a theater director and choreographer trying to balance staging his latest Broadway musical, NY/LA, while editing a Hollywood film he has directed

Dir:  Bob Fosse

Cast:

"The film won the Palme d'Or at the 1980 Cannes Film Festival.

In 2001, All That Jazz was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_That_Jazz_(film)

"....  A tour de force self-portrait by the brilliant writer-director-choreographer Bob Fosse, as seamlessly impersonated in a career-peak turn from Roy Scheider. This darkly funny dramedy ranges from the dance floor to the casting couch to one of the most incredibly vivid near-death experiences ever captured in a fiction feature. One viewing and you’ll never forget the comic/tragic nuances of Fosse’s shower mantra, with pills and the day’s first cigarette: "It’s showtime!"

Someone at TCM needs to start consulting MovieCollectorOH's database.  Per that reference, Mr. Belvedere Goes to College (1949) has been on TCM 1 time prior to this week.  It's also scheduled for Oct. 4 and Nov. 24 in case anyone missed it (and it can also be seen for another week on WatchTCM as well).
