Cinecon 50 is coming soon!  August 28th through September 1st 2014.

For nearly half a century Cinephiles have gathered over Labor Day Weekend to celebrate the movies at the annual Cinecon Classic Film Festival.  Cinecon is where archivists, authors, collectors and film fans come together for five days of classic film screenings, special programs, celebrity guests, and the best movie memorabilia show in the nation.  Cinecon is dedicated to showcasing unusual films that are rarely given public screenings.

Cinecon is highly regarded among film fans for screening the rare and unusual films of the silent and early sound era - films that seldom get seen on a big screen.  Cinecon combs the major film archives and Hollywood studio vaults to select often forgotten gems that deserve a fresh look and reappraisal.  At Cinecon there is something for everyone - comedy, drama, musicals, Westerns.  They show the latest restorations - and some one-of -a-kind rarities.

All films are shown at the Grauman's Egyptian Theater at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, most in 35mm.  Silent films feature live musical accompaniment.  For a full list of the films and screening times, please check out the schedule page at http://www.cinecon.org;

Cinecon 50 is just beginning to select films for their program.  Until they announce the titles for this years Cinecon, you can take a look at some of the films and special programs that they ran at last year's show at http://www.cinecon.org

Taking place in the heart of Hollywood, Cinecon is a five-day celebration of film featuring screenings, celebrity guests, and one of the best movie memorabilia shows in the country. Next Labor Day weekend, beginning Thursday night, August 28 and continuing through Monday afternoon, September 1, film fans attending the show will be treated to nearly fifty rare features and shorts, and have an opportunity to purchase rare stills, posters and other collectibles.

Cinecon screenings take place at the Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian located at 6712 Hollywood Blvd. The historic Egyptian theater was renovated and restored in 1998 by the American Cinematheque group. They managed to maintain the historic integrity   of the theater while installing state of the art projection and sound equipment making it the optimum venue for all formats of film.

Our Memorabilia show, Film Book Fair and celebrity Career Achievement Awards Banquet take place a few blocks down the street at the Loews Hollywood Hotel (formerly the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel) at 1755 North Highland Avenue. The Loews Hollywood Hotel is the cornerstone of the Hollywood and Highland Entertainment complex which features retail stores, fast food eateries, movie theaters, restaurants and also houses the Dolby Theater (formerly the Kodak) which is the home of the Academy Awards. Cinecon attendees receive a special discount when booking their accommodations at the Loews. The Memorabilia show and Film Book Fair will be located in the 3rd floor meeting area of the hotel and the banquet will be in the Hollywood Ballroom on the mezzanine level (second floor).

The festival begins Thursday afternoon with pre-registration packets available at 5:00 pm at the hotel registration table and walk-up registration beginning at 6:00. The packets contain the Cinecon program, film schedule, Cinecon badge and optional banquet ticket. The Thursday films start at 7:00 and run to about midnight. (See the Cinecon schedule for show times for the rest of the weekend).

The Memorabilia show runs all weekend, Thursday through Monday (click http://www.cinecon.org/cinecon_memorabilia.html#hourshere for hours) and the celebrity Career Achievement Awards Banquet is Sunday evening.

The Cinecon Classic Film Festival is open to the public and you can attend by buying a full festival pass or a single day pass. No admissions to individual films are sold. Passes also include free entrance to our memorabilia dealers' rooms but for those who only want to shop we do offer a separate dealers-room-only admission. Visit our registration page for more information on admission prices.

One of the best parts of Cinecon is the opportunity to meet like-minded film enthusiasts.  Film historians, preservationists, film distributors and interested industry professionals, as well as collectors and film buffs all come to celebrate the movies at Cinecon over Labor Day weekend.

Yes, and Cinecon also wants to encourage you to take advantage of the pre-event discount rate.  Individually, festival registration and a banquet ticket (where there are more celebrities) would add up to $195.00.  When you pre-register and book the whole package before Cinecon - - registration and banquet - the rate is $160.00 - a savings of $35.00

The discount applies only to registrations received or postmarked on or before August 20, 2014.
