Ray Faiola
James Whale's SHOW BOAT is another of those classic films whose original trailer vanished many years ago. So here's one in period style that I put together. The narration track is from the original Hollywood on the Air radio prevue. If a trailer were made in modern style, there would be emphasis on the darker aspects such as the miscegenation subplot. But in 1936 they would stress music, fun and romance.
starliteyes
Very nice. What a great movie that is! So much better than the later MGM remake, which was pretty to look at but lacking in spirit.
Dargo
Very impressive work here, Ray! If you hadn't mentioned the original trailer had been lost years ago, I would have sworn I was watching it right there!
Richard Kimble
That was very good. Maybe too good -- even as late as '36 the cutting in trailers was often rather choppy (especially sound matching). Also there would have been text on the screen throughout the footage, e.g.: "Never before!" "Music! Romance! Laughter!" "Universal's Sensational Songster of 1936!" "Entertainment as big as the Mighty Mississippi!"

I would say it's better in at least one area (Keel is preferable to Jones)
