9. In the original Broadway cast of Too Many Girls (1939), he sang "She Could Shake the Maracas," a song that was not used in the film. He reprised the song on the 1972 Tony Awards.

3.  He enlisted in the Marines, serving from 1945-1949.   Stationed in Washington DC, his duties included serving as honor guard at military funerals at Arlington National Cemetery.
