jakeem
Known as "The Bronze Buckaroo," Jeffries, who starred in numerous African-American westerns, has died at the age of 100. Turner Classic Movies aired two of his films -- "Two Gun Man from Harlem" (1938) and "Harlem Rides the Range" (1939) -- during its July 2011 celebration of singing cowboys. http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/herb-jeffries-jazz-balladeer-and-star-of-all-black-cowboy-movies-dies/2014/05/26/a2416490-c5da-11df-94e1-c5afa35a9e59_story.html?wprss=rss_entertainment

FredCDobbs
Nice tall hat. Nice Western necktie. Nice black Western clothes. Beautiful Spanish-style gun belts and holsters. Nice shiny six-shooters. A handsome cowboy.
hepclassic
May he rest in peace. He was the last living person of the generation of the independent race films of that time period.
AndyM108
When I read the obits today in the Times and the Washington Post, I immediately went to YouTube and had myself a Jeffries mini-festival, beginning with and his biggest hit, , both recorded with the great Duke Ellington. What a voice, and what a life. R.I.P., "Bronze Buckaroo" Anyone notice the second billing here, the actor later known best in the role of Andrew H. Brown. ValentineXavier
If we're lucky, TCM will run a few of his films, in the not-too-distant future. Right now, I'd say that Herb has gone on to be one of those Ghost Riders in the Sky...
