JakeHolman
It happens to be a point of view I love. This is what attracted me to the story — the difficulty of being an individual today. Life gets more and more complex and convoluted. Young people are not happy with what's going on — and they're right. The character in Lonely Are the Brave had that quality. He didn't want to belong to this day and age. It's difficult to buck the system. That's the tragedy of it. Kirk Douglas on his favorite movie.

JakeHolman
[about Elvis Presley] He helped to kill off the influence of me and my contemporaries, but I respect him for that. Because music always has to progress, and no-one could have opened the door to the future like he did. Bing Crosby

JakeHolman
They have been the mainstay of the industry ever since its beginning. And they have been good to me. Westerns are a type of picture which everybody can see and enjoy. Westerns always make money. And they always increase a star's fan following. Randolph Scott

JakeHolman
Money must be, I guess, what first took me to Hollywood. When I first came out, I certainly had no ambition to make pictures.
JakeHolman
I'm not of the can-kicking, shovel-carrying, ear-scratching, torn T-shirt school of acting. There are very few real men in the movies these days. Yet being a real man is the most important quality an actor can offer on the screen.
JakeHolman
When you're dead, you're dead. No one is going to remember me when I'm dead. Oh, maybe a few friends will remember me affectionately. Being remembered isn't the most important thing, anyhow. It's what you do when you are here that's important.
JakeHolman
Take any picture you can. One out of four will be good, one out of ten will be very good, and one out of 15 will get you an Academy Award.
JakeHolman
John Wayne is underrated. He's an awfully good actor. He holds a thing together; he gives it a solidity and honesty, and he can make a lot of things believable.
JakeHolman
I feel very close to the western. There are not too many American art forms that are original. Most are derived from European art forms. Other than the western and jazz or blues, that's all that's really original.

And there were frightening moments when I briefly felt as if I were Knute Rockne.
