But we should clarify that it was not filmed in America. It was financially backed by a Hollywood studio, but filmed entirely in Europe. Her next few pictures were done in England and France. She did not make a movie in the U.S. again until 1969's CACTUS FLOWER, which was produced in New York. So she worked outside the U.S. for twenty years. She didn't even come back to Hollywood for the Oscars, when she "won" for ANASTASIA. She remained in Europe, and Cary Grant accepted on her behalf.

Reading "All the King's Men" in college, was so interesting. I remember after seeing the film that I thought Andy Griffith would also have been fabulous as the Huey Long based character, but I did love Broderick Crawford in the role. I always wished I could have seen footage of Broderick and his mommy, Helen Broderick together in a film. I would not have ever pictured her as his mother. Thanks as usual for your sage updates, TB!

Yes, it's surprising Brod and his mother didn't do at least one film together, since their careers overlapped by a few years. She was a great character actress. And he proved you didn't have to really look like the traditional leading man to be a bonafide leading man in Hollywood.
