TCM and Other Sources for Classic Film

Well this one is different from 12 ANGRY MEN, because it has a romantic subplot and that sort of overtakes the rest of the story.

Imagine if 12 ANGRY MEN had a gay romantic subplot! It doesn't really fit in with a movie that is about justice and arriving at the right verdict.

Just imagine Juror 10#'s (Ed Begley) reaction if one of the jurors came on to him (particularly the watchmaker).;)

I suppose a film that pairs Ginger Rogers & Dennis Morgan was bound to have romantic undercurrents. Especially since they had previously been teamed as a couple in the sudser KITTY FOYLE.

So I am seeing two good double features that TCM could program:

KITTY FOYLE & PERFECT STRANGERS

***

PERFECT STRANGERS & 12 ANGRY MEN

Cool selection of films.

And to think earlier we were talking about Leslie Nielsen.

But THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA is the flick I am really looking forward to seeing.

BACKGROUND certainly sounds interesting enough, I like to see a bit more of Valerie Hobson anyway.

I watched BACKGROUND last night. It's based on a play but not too stage-bound. Hobson is wonderful as always. She didn't make too many more after this one. It's near the end of her film career.

Care for a drink? on TCM

ARSENIC AND OLD LACE with Edward Everett Horton and two hospitable sisters

Love, love LOVE this flick!

Cary Grant at his manic best, Raymond Massey at his most sinister, Peter Lorre at the height of his haplessness and Jack Carson as the eternally clueless keystone cop....what more can you ask for?

SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL with Natalie Wood

DON'T MAKE WAVES with Sharon Tate

NOT WITH MY WIFE YOU DON'T! with Virna Lisi

SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL, while not a classic, still an enjoyable time-passer.

Haven't seen DON'T MAKE WAVES. NOT WITH MY WIFE YOU DON'T I am lukewarm towards.

I think TCM tries to promote SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL as a classic along the lines of SOME LIKE IT HOT. But it's not quite "there."

I like DON'T MAKE WAVES but it's far from perfect. Don't care for NOT WITH MY WIFE...a very contrived farce, barely saved by the acting.

I wish they had decided to show ARRIVEDERCI BABY! (original title is DROP DEAD DARLING). That's a fun British comedy he made around this time with Zsa Zsa Gabor and Nancy Kwan. But alas, it's a Paramount title and they don't always like to ante up and get Paramount films.

Don't Make Waves is interesting to see a slice of So Cal life in the 60s

I've never seen THE COMIC.

Originally a Lizbeth Scott noir evening was planned. But that was bumped (and not yet rescheduled) to make way for Reiner's tribute.

Looking forward to all of these!

THE BIRDS still freaks me out and THE RAVEN, while not faithful to the original source material, is still a lot of fun to watch thanks to the inspired combo of Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre (heck, they even threw a young Jack Nicholson in here!).
