Imagine if 12 ANGRY MEN had a gay romantic subplot! It doesn't really fit in with a movie that is about justice and arriving at the right verdict. Just imagine Juror 10#'s (Ed Begley) reaction if one of the jurors came on to him (particularly the watchmaker).

I suppose a film that pairs Ginger Rogers & Dennis Morgan was bound to have romantic undercurrents. Especially since they had previously been teamed as a couple in the sudser KITTY FOYLE. So I am seeing two good double features that TCM could program: KITTY FOYLE & PERFECT STRANGERS *** PERFECT STRANGERS & 12 ANGRY MEN

I watched BACKGROUND last night. It's based on a play but not too stage-bound. Hobson is wonderful as always. She didn't make too many more after this one. It's near the end of her film career.

But it's not quite "there." I like DON'T MAKE WAVES but it's far from perfect. Don't care for NOT WITH MY WIFE...a very contrived farce, barely saved by the acting. I wish they had decided to show ARRIVEDERCI BABY! (original title is DROP DEAD DARLING). That's a fun British comedy he made around this time with Zsa Zsa Gabor and Nancy Kwan. But alas, it's a Paramount title and they don't always like to ante up and get Paramount films. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_Dead_Darling

THE BIRDS still freaks me out and THE RAVEN, while not faithful to the original source material, is still a lot of fun to watch thanks to the inspired combo of Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre (heck, they even threw a young Jack Nicholson in here!).
