Mitchum on TCM

the friends of eddie coyle

A grim movie which has a stink of Watergate disillusion to it, "The Friends Of Eddie Coyle" offers some hockey "padding" within the film: a Blackhawks game at the Boston Garden. As I found the film to be especially ugly, I conversely found its "padding" to be Tony Esposito-esque and had fun name-dropping players such as Stan Mikita. The Eddie Muller/Ben Mankiewicz intro included mention of Robert Mitchum sometimes going off-script during the making of the 1973 movie, and I wonder if his(?) line about Bobby Orr was off-the-cuff because it sounded like someone was speaking of Orr six years earlier.

Olympics on TCM

16 days of glory

For those who have enjoyed Bud Greenspan's series, THE OLYMPIAD, 16 DAYS OF GLORY is an expansion of the style of those earlier television mini-docs, and this is in part thanks to the inclusion of their voice, narrator David Perry, who was Greenspan's brother.
